Don't Call Me Precious

There's a blog I took off my reader recently after giving it several months to prove itself. It was a gorgeous blog. Every picture looked like a piece of art, every entry, poetic.

And every time it popped up on my reader, I ended up clicking 'delete'.

It's not that I don't appreciate beautiful posts. Far from it. After all, I am a classically trained artist. I eat this stuff up.

But the blogger never gave any useful information (supposedly her blog was about homesteading). It never invited me (the reader) to interact, or share, or learn. If she would have thrown in a few good informational posts along with her warm-fuzzy posts, I would have visited happily.

Instead, her blog was performance art and my only function was to clap and approve.

I don't think so, Sparky.

From the postcard perfect scenery shots to posts about objects that were of a specific color. It all felt so contrived. And while many of her readers oohed and aahed about the beautiful place she called home, I couldn't help feeling deceived. It was staged. Choreographed so that even the ugly bits looked artistic.

It was
precious.

That's not what homesteading is about. Not to me anyway.

My writing isn't precious either. I don't wax poetic, nor do I immerse you in so much description that you forget what I was talking about.

I try to make you feel what I feel without going all Baroque on you.

I simply can't do precious.

It is entirely possible that Greg is right and I don't have a human heart, therefore I can't appreciate 'precious' for the warm-fuzzy bunny that it is.

So what say you, guys? Are 'precious' blog posts that appealing or is Greg right, and I really do have the heart of Medusa pumping in my chest?

hmm...that might explain the snake-hair.

Happens to me all the time. I find blogs that I think are interesting, put them on my list, give them a few weeks (not months) and see what happens. Sometimes I'll find myself going, "Oh no, not right now" every time I see the blog popping up on the list. Or I'll catch myself not really reading the entries, more procrastinating around them.

Since we only have a limited amount of time and usually so much more things we want to do than time to do them, I guess we should choose our pass-times carefully. Some people need beauty, those blogs are for them. Some people want tons of facts, they have to find other blogs.

And I don't think you have the heart of Medusa. That's mine. (^v^)

The reader comes in handy because I will save some posts for a week or more depending on how much time I have.

Ref: And I don't think you have the heart of Medusa. That's mine.

LOL! You realize, we could be related. Medusa had two sisters.

Why is it that when you don't enjoy the warm fuzzies or any of that frilly stuff then everyone assumes you've got nothing but a black heart?

I'm with you on wanting more than a performance. I want information, or at least something interesting or witty.

You're not evil for getting rid of the blog. If you aren't going to read it why have it in your reader annoying you every day?

Renee: Oh, my hubby has been accusing me of having a black heart for as long as we've known each other. We've been married a long time--I guess he would know.

But you're right. I have to purge blogs every so often. I usually give them several months because sometimes content is cyclical. I might run into a few posts that I can't identify with and then BAM!, they say something brilliant.

And since you stopped by, I get to add you to my reader. Thanks for commenting!

If I find that I'm constantly ignoring a blog, then that tells me they have nothing to offer and then I get rid of it. I don't think you have a black heart.

Hope you're having a good Tuesday.

Hi Dru!

Ref: I don't think you have a black heart.

That's because you're way too nice--and I have a mean husband...who's lived with me too many years. :o)

I like blogs best that are informative, funny, and that are about the same issues I'm concerned with. If not, I don't follow them for long.
I'm passing along an award to you. Enjoy!

Of course you have a Medusa heart! But you know that's what I love about you.

Darn! I'd forgotten you knew that about me.

Keep it on the down-low, 'k? We don't want to scare the nice people.

I can't give you a good answer... I have a black heart, too (which is why I've been compared to Fish from Barney Miller... one of my friends said this about me: "You're nice, but... not."

I want either information or something else to make me want to comment. Period. I'm not looking for an art lesson.

I can't believe that! Oh, god. Now I'll never get that image out of my head.

Greg always calls me a witch...or at least, I think he says 'witch'.

hmm...
