Not For Rent

It happened again. Someone contacted me to use my blog as a springboard for their business. Those of you who are regulars know that I link liberally. If I've had any experience with a product or service, I want others to know about it.

But I won't do it for profit, nor will I take on advertisers. What would I make? A few pennies here and there? And for what? I'd end up annoying my regular readers with ads. It's not worth it.

So that's my policy if anyone else wants to know.

I seem to be getting more requests than usual lately. Has anyone else had that experience? Maybe I'm getting more popular and I don't even know it. LOL!

The last one had mattresses and furniture on their website and thought that we could "put our heads together for some giveaways on your blog".
Can you imagine me giving away furniture as prizes on my blog? LOL! Crazy.

Furniture! LOL.

No, so far I'm getting asked about stuff I talk about here. Dogs, frugal living, gardening...but still.

Let me know if you change your mind, Jennifer. I'll send people over.

I've gotten the occasional email with these types of requests. But if they'd even looked at my blog, they'd have seen that's not what I'm all about. I just delete ...

Joanne: I guess they're looking to exploit every opportunity they can.

Have not gotten any yet and hope I never do!!! Maybe if people would bother to pay attention they would understand since you already do not have any kind of "sales pitch" going that you are not interested.
Sucks when you try to do something nice Maria and the thanks you get is someone wanting to make a buck off of your efforts here!!!

I like the spammers with their generic comments. "I've been reading your blog and have decided we have lots in common. Let's link together!" And if you go to their blog, it's about self-cleaning oil wells or something. Good on you for sticking to your guns.

Funny, I just had an email from CSN stores, furnishing I think, with such a request. Spammers make the world smaller - though in fairness he may not be a spammer, just someone doing a job.

PS Good luck with the book signing. :)

Jackie: A few of the requests were for charitable organizations too, but it's tricky. Who do you let in? Who gets left out?

I am a sucker for dog charities, and those are the ones that are hard to say no.

Maria Zannini said...

Barbara: Oh, gosh, yes. If I had a dime for every one of those, I really would be rich. :)

Mike: You get some weird ones too. Is it that UK connection?

Ref: book signing
What? You're not hopping on British Airways to come to my book signing. I'm hurt. LOL!

(I thought you'd get a kick out of the invite.)

I get quite of few of these on my writing blog and other blogs I admin for businesses. I always say no too... well, actually I just don't answer.

India: I call it trolling for dollars.

There are some blogs which do a lot of giveaways (and product placement) - but that's usually what those blogs are about.

I can take an ad or two, but more than that and it starts getting in the way of the message.

I don't mind blogs that have ads, I just don't want them on my blog.

Too much to police.
