Fruits Of My Labor

Maybe my vegetable garden hasn't done too well this year, but the fruit trees and voluntary berry brambles have surpassed my expectations.

These are plums from my little baby plum tree.

I know it's nothing compared to what Mike Keyton harvests, but it's a start.

They taste so good too. Small, but very sweet.

Update on Bite Week

You won't believe this, but Sunday afternoon while I w
as deep in edits, a hornet WALKED up my shoe and stung me on the ankle. I kid you not!

After the scorpion sting, the hornet sting was 'meh', no biggie. But I was furious to get stung twice in one week. That is so unfair.

Mother Nature really has it in for me. What did I do wrong? I am safer outside than I am in my own house. Yes. The hornet stung me indoors. He didn't even buzz around. Lazy hornet!

Tell me the truth. Is this not bizarre? I don't even have a clue how he got in. He must have slipped in as we came in and out of the house.

Maria, the plums look good. I love it when things a person plant bears the "fruit of that labor" and you actually "reap" the rewards! Anyway, bad Hornet and bad Scorpion. Blame it on 2 things right now the lack of moisture outside and the heat. It is driving the bugs in to humans abodes to seek out some water and shelter from the unrelenting blast of the sun!!!

Stung twice in one week? Sounds like a conspiracy to me. :) Seriously though, I do ope you're feeling better.

Your plums look good. Maybe now you won't be stung anymore for the rest of the summer.

Our plums aren't in season just yet. Yours look great, are they the methley plums? They're my favorite, as sweet as candy! And sorry about the hornet, sheesh. Very bad buggy luck :(

Jackie: You are so right about the hot weather. I've been researching scorpions (obviously) and extremely hot weather will drive them indoors in search of water.

We'll see about that. LOL.

Catie: I am better--though I have a right to be bitter, huh?

I generally have a live and let live attitude toward critters, but they've been testing my patience this week.

Dru: Hey, now there's a deal I can make with Mother Nature. 3 good stings and she leaves me alone the rest of the year.

Joanne: I think they are Methley. I'll have to check again.

I'm very pleased with the flavor. Much better than what I expected.

I hope you'll post pictures of yours when they come into season.

Okay, it's just a guess, but I'd say that all the stinging might have something to do with the Apocalypse. I hear it's closer than some might think! LOL!
Be careful! I don't know who you ticked off... Are there some candles that you need to burn? Incense, maybe?
--James
Some people just have body chemistry that attracts insects. Sorry to hear you may be one of them. And if I ever meet you, remind me to stay a good 10 feet away at all times ;-)

James: It's either the apocalypse or hell's about to ice over.

Either way, it seems I've ticked someone off.

Wendy: I swear to you this doesn't normally happen.

Well the spideys, yes. I am always sticking my hands where they don't belong, but wasps and bees--hardly ever.

Ma Nature is mad at me. I better go build her an altar.
Marianne Arkins said…
Wow on the wasp -- yellow jackets aside (nasty buggers who will sting you as soon as look at you ... grrr) most bee-type critters require some provocation. I do think you've offended some higher-up, lol. Perhaps an altar IS in order.

And YAY on the plums!!! I wish I could have them here, but the Japanese beetles love, Love, LOVE cherry and plum trees more than just about anything and I don't have the energy to fight them.

I'll swap you some of my peaches for your plums... *G*

Ooh, those plums look lovely! (Gosh, that sounded dirty.)
Lately I've been noticing that related troubles come in swarms. I hope your swarm is over and there are good times ahead!

I'd brag about my crabapples, but the squirrels have eaten them all. Someone pointed out that they eat the cores of the things and leave the actual fruit part to rot. #@!!
Maria Zannini said…
Marianne: Hey, I wish we could do some trading. My peach tree has fruit but something is eating the leaves. I have yet to find the culprit. So far the fruit is safe.

I'd hate to spray, but what are my alternatives?
Maria Zannini said…
India: Don't deny it. I know your mind is in the gutter. LOL.
Maria Zannini said…
Carol: The squirrels eat the centers?

Oh, now that's just not right.

We have a few squirrels here, but they are greatly outnumbered by birds.

So far the birds are leaving my fruit alone. :crosses fingers:

Good luck on your crabapples. Hope you can save a few fruit.
