Sprucing Up The Blog

Everybody seems to be sprucing up their blogs lately and I thought it was time I updated my Pages too. I concentrated on my Links Page first.

If you're a regular here and I didn't post the link to your blog, drop me a comment or an email and I'll add you. It was a little hard finding everyone because I have more than 700 blogs in various folders on my Reader. It would've been easy to miss someone.

Later on, I'll go back and divide the list between Authors, Readers/Reviewers, and Industry. I seem to get a fair amount of traffic going to the Links Page so it's not a bad place to live on my blog. On the flip side, I don't ask to be put on anyone's blog list, but if you want to give my link a home on your blog I'd love you forever.

My next job is to add info to my Books Page. Stuff like reviews and such. And then on to the Author Bio Page.

What kind of info and/or pages do you have on your blog? Do you ever click on the links or pages on the blogs you visit?

I'd love some suggestions if you have any.

The Follower Contest has just started. You can earn extra chances if you tweet or post the link on Facebook or your blog. Remember: You MUST fill out the form (and follow) if you want to be in the running for the contest.

Contest ends 1-26-11.  --By the way, even if you don't enter, I'd appreciate the occasional tweet or FB mention.

**Just a note about the critique prize. I try to be very objective and straightforward. If you feel you need someone less Godzilla-like, you won't want to enter this contest. Ask any of my CPs. I do not pull my punches. My poor CPs are always black and blue.

Wow, you DO get around, don't you? ;) I only have about 100 blogs on my reader.

And have I told you lately how much I lurve your "True Believers" cover? It's staring at me while I type in this comment! LOL

Kaz: The cover is growing on me. Right now the only thing staring at me is my bloodshot eyes. I wish this flu would hurry up and finish.

I've moved my blog to a new siteand deleting the old one, so you will be getting a new follower soon. I don't make the most of my blog, I really should.

JL: It took me a while to find my stride. But I enjoy it. It's my favorite writing job.

700 blogs. Wow!

Angela: LOL. It sounds worse than it is. I divide my reading between writing/publishing, coupon blogs, country living blogs, science and history blogs.

I don't use any pages on my blog, but that's mostly because I keep that type of info on my web site, which I provide a link to on my blog. I do click over to other blogs from Comments on other blogs, stopping in to say hello to new faces.

700?! Man, I don't think I have 100 in my reader and I have a hard time getting through all of them...and yes I have them in different files.

Feel better soon!

Maria Zannini said...

Joanne: I used to have a separate web site, but I was horrible at updating it. Now that Blogger has pages, I don't miss it so much.

Sherri: It's a glance and skip most of the time. The coupons are the easiest since I only stop if it's something I use. Writers take the longest.

I should probably cull the less interesting ones, but I usually give them a couple of months to show me what they've got.

I only have 60 blogs and not all of them have posts. I have an average of 30 blogs to read in my reader.

My blog is a regular blog, more like a journal, with links to a few of the blogs I read on a daily basis. I also included link to my latest reads.

Due to my inquisitive nature, if I see a link, I'll click on it.

It depends. Sometimes I click on the links on blogs if I'm looking for more info on an author or like to see what they like or link to.

Maria Zannini said...

Dru: I have to slow down my fingers, once I read the post on my reader, if I go to the blog, I comment and move on.

Jennifer: I do too. Sometimes I'm disappointed when there is too little--or too much. It's hard to strike a balance.

I have not been to the links page but it sounds like a great idea. I just put everyone on my blogroll for now. Im at about 250 blogs

My favorite places to check out on a new blog are the "pages", you learn quite a bit if the links and extras are kept separate from the rest of the blog... I am still refining mine and have my slider scrolls on my sidebar which allow me to leave my blog listings there for now...

Since I have over 500 blogs on my reader have started to just hop over to the ones that are I have sent as direct email feeds every day... It has made life easier as do not open up my reader everyday anymore as am limiting my time online since overcast weather started, it gives me too much eyestrain these days to read my blogs so sticking more with my books....

Joanna: I thought about using the blog roll, but I wanted to keep my sidebar clean. That's why I gave them their own page.

Jackie: I saved that link you had on your blog. It's a great idea! I can't use the feeds, but that's only because I get too much mail. Blog posts would just get lost. But I can see other people using it. I've got a subscription feed to this blog at the bottom of the page.

jackie b central texas said...

Maria you do have the subscription feed but unless I send mine to email when I subscribe to RSS feeds they are gobbledy gook when I go to open them now for some reason...

I too gets lots of email everyday but since some of it is easily look at the blurb and deleted mail it narrows it down for me....

For me the best feature ever invented was the RSS email subscription box widget so when I want to comment on a post it is easy to find on my email... Plus it allows me to save certain posts to get info from later at my leisure, sometimes weeks later.....LOL

I never do click on the pages or links, but I have them on my own blog. Not sure why, it seems to make it more professional, website-ish I guess!

Wow more than 700 blogs in folders. I feel overwhelmed and I only have less than 200, but keep adding new ones every week. LOL.

A links page on your blog and so well organised. That is definitely a good idea *reaches for To Do list*

and thanks for including me in the list, Maria :)

Meghan Schuessler said...

700 - YIKES! How do you find the time to read them all? I thought I had a lot in my reader, but I only have around 150!

Shirley Wells said...

It looks great!

I put pages on my blog, decided I didn't like them, deleted them, then decided I needed them. Revamping my blog has been on my To Do list for months. Maybe after the current round of edits...

I do link to my website from my blog, but I think a lot of people prefer to see everything on a blog as that's where they go for the latest news.

Maria Zannini said...

Karen: I'm glad Blogger came up with pages. It keeps me from cramming too much stuff on my sidebar.

Mason: I need to cull. Every so often I get a bee in my bonnet and I chop off a bunch blogs.

Jenny: You're welcome, Jenny! You know I luvs ya. :)

Meghan: I scan most of them. That's why the first paragraph is critical.

Shirley: I had a web site, but it was so much trouble to keep up. I'm much happier with just the blog.

Suzanne Brandyn said...

You're amazing.I couldn't imagine following so many blogs. I wouldn't have anytime left to write. :)

Excellent sprucing!
Yikes, 700 blogs. Did a radioactive scorpion bite you? lol

Bookewyrme said...

Aw, thanks for adding me! Just one thing. Today I announced a name change, so it is Lia Wolff instead of Lia Booke.

The one page I have on my blog which is non-standard is my "Favorite Authors" page. Reading has always been hugely important to me, and it is part of why I am a writer in the first place, but I can't have a favorite books page. I can't possibly pick a "favorite"! So I posted my favorite authors, and usually which series of theirs were my favorites.
