A Happening Spot

Meet me over at TBR where I talk a little bit about frugal living and my new book, Smart Budgets for Busy People. One commenter over at TBR will win a copy of the book.

I have such high hopes for this series. It's more than just an idea, it's a lifestyle I love.

Also, don't forget to LIKE The Frugal Way on Facebook. I'll be posting freebies and discounts as I find them.

Murray Report: Murray is better, but the Parvo has compromised his immune system and now he's got what might be a respiratory infection. We'll be at the vet's office whenever they can fit us in.

I've not had a solid night's sleep in almost two weeks. At first because he was so sick, but now because he's not able to hold his bladder, so we are out for our walks at all hours of the night.

At least he tells me when he needs to go out. I've had very few accidents. I'm not allowing him to use the run because he's too little yet. With no big brothers to protect him, I can't be sure a hawk or coyote won't try to make off with him. (I don't have that problem with Tank and Iko. Every predator in the area gives them a wide berth. LOL!)

Every day is better, but I was sorry to see Murray come down with something else. Hopefully, the vet can prescribe something for it.

As years go, 2011 was not great. Judging by the various blogs I read, most people were in the same boat, but there were a few who said they had a great year. I could use one of those.

How did 2011 rate for you? Good, bad, or unchanged?

2011 was the worst year of my life. I am so glad to see it gone. I have high hopes for a joyful, peaceful 2012. I hope you have some of that joy and peace, too.

Sending healing thoughts and prayers your way. Murray is front and center in my heart and thoughts. I hope the vet can help your sweet little guy.

REF: MURRAY: I'm so sorry to hear that Murray is sick again. I sure hope that he gets fully better soon. Is his immune system going to get better over time or is it forever compromised? I sure hope it gets better. He seems like such a great little guy!

REF: NEW BOOK Congrats on the new book. I will have to check this one out as I'm broke as sin and hate to spend money. Maybe I could pick up a trick or two.

REF: 2011 I think you already know how I feel about 2011. I'm so glad that year is gone, gone, gone.

I can honestly say that 2011 wasn't a bad year! I'm not going to go into details, but even though the money situation wasn't good, and we lost two family members (health reasons), overall, it was a good year.

Can't wait to see what kind of new and wonderful things are waiting for us in 2012! :)

Congrats on your new book! The art of living frugally is a great topic! Thanks for the welcome back. I took off a couple of weeks for the holidays and family visiting from across the state. It felt great, but I'm ready to get back in the swing of things.
2011 had its ups and downs in my family. Overall, I had a good year.
I sure hope your little guy, Murray, gets well. I don't know much about Parvo.
I'd be happy to have you guest post and feature your book if you'd like at my blog. Just shoot me an email.

I'm so sorry to hear about Murray. Sending well wishes! I hope 2012 proves to be a better year for all. I'm excited to hear about your new book. I'll be checking it out!

Poor Murray. I remember when my dog had to have both of her back legs operated on for patella problems. It's so hard to see them unwell. Hopefully Murray gets through this infection soon and you can both get some needed rest.

Hope Murray's latest health problem is a mild one and he gets past it quickly, for both your sakes.

2011 goes in the books as a so-so year. I'm looking to make 2012 a better one.

Sarita: You had an awful year and it hurts my heart to know how much you suffered. Here's hoping 2012 will be a year of healing and renewal.

Angelina: I'm with you. 2011 couldn't end soon enough for me. I have high hopes for 2012 though.

Darke: Yay! So glad one of us had a good year. I hope it continues for you.

Julie: Naps. My kingdom for a nap. LOL.

Nadja: I'm still recovering from the Murray crisis. But maybe we can get together later this year. There are more frugal books planned. Thanks for the invitation!

Rula: I can't understand it. We've been in virtual isolation for almost two weeks. The only thing I can think of is maybe he picked up something at the vet's office.

LG: My dogs are as close to me as children. And seeing them suffer gives you the strength to move heaven and earth if it became necessary. I hope your dog recovered fully. That's a major surgery.

Linda: You got your 'free' year to explore the possibilities. Now it's time for work. :) I'll stand by with your tea and cookies.

When little Murray pulls through this, he's going to be so much stronger. He's already a joy to read about, so I can't imagine how much he's enriched your lives.

My mother-in-law's little Dachshund Oscar got carried off by a hawk. He's a wily little thing and always squirms. The hawk dropped him and he limped home. He was badly cut up and it was touch and go, but he's our little miracle. Very timid now and a skittish, but adorable.

Keep Murray out of the run until he can chomp the hawks head :D

2011 - meh to ugh
I'm hopeful about 2012.

I sure hope Murray gets better soon and grow big and strong to chase those hawks and coyotes away.

{hugs} on the little guy. I really hope he can get healthy and stay that way. Hopefully you'll get some sleep soon too!

Congrats on the book! Definitely picking that baby up :) (And you're welcome on my blog any time!)

2011...hmm...some good, some not so good...nothing to scream it was a good or bad year. I'm looking forward to 2012. Wishing you a wonderful year Maria!
2011 was pretty good for me, but I fear it was awful for so many others. Have Tank and Iko met the little guy yet? I'll be anxious to hear how they feel about him.

I saw the same thing with 2011. I had some ups and downs, but feel the year ended well with my book, A Medieval Yule being published.

My thoughts are still with you and little Murray. He seems like a trooper and here's seeing him completely well soon.

Here's to 2012 being a much better year for all of us.
Last year was a tough one but we're trying to be optimistic this year. Hope your little one is better soon.

I hope Murray will be better.

as for 2011 it wasn't really a good year but i can say it wasn't the worse. ( no dead, ok my health was really bad but i didn't nearly died in 2011 so it's better than the others^^)
2012 will be better if we are optimistic it will help

oh Murray. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that soon you'll be back to your great puppy self!
2011 was so-so for me. Writing was pretty good, personal was OK with one major, horrible, snag that really tanked the year. Onwards to 2012!

So glad Murray is better but sorry he is dealing with something else now. It is SO hard when you don't get sleep. I am a crazy person without it. :-) I am sending you peace and positive vibes. My 2011 was a nice balance of good and bad...hoping for the same in 2012.

I do hope Murray will be OK in no time at all. You're a very good puppy mommy.
Maria Zannini said…
KT: That's awful! We had a hawk pick off one of our rhea chicks many years ago. He fought so hard the hawk dropped him. We have a lot of predatory birds where we live. I'm glad Oscar made it. Whew! Very scary.

Southpaw: It's so weird. I really expected 2011 to be better. Hope springs eternal though.

Raelyn: The verdict from the vet was more speculation than fact. He thinks Murray is coughing up hookworms. He's on his second round of wormer. If the vet is right, Murray should be better in four days. If he's not--more tests.

Barbara: The boys have met. So far Tank is not impressed and Iko doesn't know what to make of him. He's too little to play with just yet.

Kaye: Amen to that. :)

Susan: Given a choice, I'd go with optimism every time. Things never stay the same, be they good or bad.

Miki: I consider 'not being dead' a definite good thing. :)

Sarah: Let's make a deal. No more horrible bad things in 2012. I think we made our quota in 2011.

Tracy Jo: I'm the same way without sleep. I don't know how my hubby does it with his crazy hours.

Carol: I'm hoping being a good puppy mommy will give me some brownie points in heaven. :)

Sorry like everyone else more problems for Murray, you hang in there all is getting better we just have to beloved that hard enough.
Maris you know last few months of this past year have colored my judgement with negative connotations and feelings, thank all that is merciful in Heaven we got through the year with no more disasters on our area or affecting us personally!
New Year, new chances to make happy memories.

Jackie: Murray could use a break about now. I just want to see him well.

Sorry to hear Murray is still having problems. Hope the vet has something that will make him well quickly. Little One had a few days with an upset stomach and I was starting to worry, but she seems to be on the mend. Hopefully 2012 will be a better year for our four-legged babies. Off now to find out more about SMART BUDGETS.

It's wonderful that you get to put out a series that you love. It's my life's dream to earn my living doing what I love.

I'm so glad. I've already downloaded my copy. I've got some learning to do.

And I'm so glad Murray is doing better. May not be 100% yet, but in your capable and loving hands, he'll be the happiest doggy ever.

Oh, poor Murray. My fingers are crossed for him.

2011 wasn't a bad year, but it wasn't a good one either. Lots of our families & friends had horrid years. Combined with the natural disasters down here - not so good. I'm hoping 2012 is better for everyone.

Like everyone else, I hope Murray pulls through,
that you get more sleep, though nocturnal walks are fun,
That frugal living leads to success.

For me, 2011 came and went.

Oh poor Murray, I hope he gets better very soon. You must be so tired, crossing fingers he'll be on the mend so you can have a proper night's sleep.

The new book sounds great - I am so impressed with your energy and motivation, especially with everything else going on. You are very inspiring!

2011 was one of those years where you tread water, but that's not ness a bad thing at all. I think it was what I needed, in many ways.

If I generalize, I'd say 2011 sucked, but still, we lost none of our closest friends and family (even though my one friend is still in hospital) and I did well in my economics, so I got my degree. Seems like an OK year to me.

Still, I really hope that 2012 is better.

Congrats on your new book. I hope it does well.

I hope Murray gets better soon.
Maria Zannini said…
Angela: I hope you find the book useful. Thank you for buying!

Shelley: 2011 was one for natural disasters, wasn't it? Just awful. That's one thing I hope we don't repeat this year.

Mike: I wouldn't mind the nocturnal walks, but I'm one of those who can't fall asleep easily. So I'm awake long after the little monster is sawing logs.

Jayne: I wish I had some help about now. Between Murray, the book and lack of sleep, I'm running on empty. At least he's better than he was. Poor little tyke.

Misha: It's always a plus when we don't lost anyone. But major kudos for you for earning your degree. That makes it a great year for you. I know how hard you worked for it.

Wow - I almost feel bad saying that 2011 was a fantastic year for me & my family. Lots of 'firsts' throughout the year. My daughter's wedding, my other daughter's books published, my book published, a fantastic vacation to Italy & Greece...

I'm praying for little Murray, too!

Congrats all around!

Hi Maria,

I took a lot of time off blogging - just didn't have the energy to keep up with it - but I just read about Murray and am so glad he's better. Pulling for him to get over this rough start. I hope you're not getting too run-down, either.

This is why I always had pet fish. :)

New book promises to be a great read. I love that particular genre (sub-genre?), but am always on the lookout for something a bit more modern than my copy of The Complete Tightwad Gazette.

So, how was 2011 for me? It ground me down to a flat exhausted pulp at the end. But if I pass the exam and if my book gets accepted and if I get a job and if if if... 2012 could be better. We'll see.
