Nailed It, In More Ways Than One

If you followed my escapades on Facebook, you know that I smashed my finger in a door a few days ago. It's still a bit tender, but I'm getting good at typing with nine fingers.

I was going to be brave and poke a few holes in my nail to relieve some of the pressure but everyone on Facebook talked me into going to the doctor instead. And guess what she did?

She poked a few holes into my nail with a needle to relieve the pressure. LOL. At least now I know it was the right thing to do.

If you do this yourself, remember to wipe alcohol on the nail and use a sterilized needle. You don't have to work the needle too far. As soon as you reach the nail bed, the blood will come gushing out and you'll feel relief almost at once.

There's your first aid tip for 2013. Hope you never have to use it.

Indies 4 Hire: The event is over but the experience will stay with me. It was amazing. I never expected that many people to attend and the interaction was terrific. My thanks again to Gwen Gardner, my guiding star and partner on this adventure.

I got to meet a bunch of new friends and I hope we introduced you to some new friends too.

And now to the winners!

Mil Holmes - 25 page edit or novel formatted
Shelley Munro – 1 blog or FB Header
Shelley Munro - 1 custom blog badge for tour event or bloghop
LD Masterson - 50 page edit or novel formatted

I couldn't believe Shelley Munro's name came up twice in the Rafflecopter. I told her she better buy a lottery ticket.

Congrats to all the winners.

MISTRESS of the STONE is up for BOOK of the YEAR.

Finally, a bit of book news from my corner. In 2012, LASR gave Mistress of the Stone a BEST BOOK rating. A high honor in itself. Well, now it's in the running for BEST BOOK of 2012 and this time readers get to choose the ultimate winner.

Voting runs from February 1 - February 14
You can vote for Mistress of the Stone here. Mistress of the Stone is somewhere in the middle.

If it wins I get some free advertising so I'm keeping my fingers crossed--but not my bad finger. :ouchie:

I love this book. Yeah, I got all historical on you, but it's accurate history even if it does have werewolves and ghouls.

This is the second time one of my books was nominated for Book of the Year. True Believers also won two other major book bloggers' Book of the Year. I'd like to do it again!

Congrats with the success on Mistress! I'll definitely go vote. :-)

Sorry to hear about your finger. I spent most of my youth working on our farm and in my father's shop (he was a diesel mechanic), so I've had my share of lost nails from smashed fingers. You're exactly right about relieving the pressure.

Spin that needle back and forth between your fingers just until you've bored through. BOOM. You feel better.

EJ: Thanks for the vote!

I was willing to drill the hole myself, but I think my friends were sure I'd have a bigger accident. (Wouldn't be the first time.)

PS I didn't know you grew up on a farm. Cool!

Let the voting begin. Sheri and Clay will be voting too, along with assorted heavies. Good luck and may the Force be with you and your finger

I'm a winner. Hooray!! Thanks!

And, I wouldn't have mentioned it but that's exactly why I didn't want you working on your own mashed finger. Lord knows what you would have done to it.

Just set a reminder to cast my vote first thing tomorrow.

Mike: Thank you! And thank Sheri and Clay too!

Linda: Good things happen to those who enter Rafflecopter contests.

re: finger
In the interest of full disclosure. The doc tripped too and ended up gouging me with the needle. I knew right away she hit meat. :)

I would not have been able to get all Rambo and poke holes into my nail to relieve the pressure. You are so She-ra hardcore for even thinking of doing that yourself. But glad you found it would have been the right thing to do :-)

Can't wait to vote for Mistress of the Stone. I loved reading it and hope it wins!

Good luck for Best Book! And I'm glad your finger feels better. I don't think I could poke holes in my own nail, but I could tell someone else to.

Maria as someone who has "poked" a hole in their own finger accidentally with a sewing machine needle, don't ask, can tell you that it is harder than you think but easier than I wish it was! Anyway glad you went to doctor, even though she bumbled it too. :-(

Voting tomorrow, congratulations and all my unbruised fingers crossed for MOS.

Typed using my NEW IMac, it is so cool!

Angela: It really wasn't that bad. Well, okay, when I was hopping around on one foot, I wasn't too happy, but the drilling was a piece of cake by comparison.

Thanks for the (future) vote!

Carol: It hurt like the dickens the first day. I don't know how I kept working all day. It helped that I didn't see my finger until I washed up. Had I known how bad it was I probably wouldn't have continued.

Thanks for the good wishes!

Jackie: OUCH! Those sewing machine needles are industrial strength.

I am dangerous around sewing machines, so I finally sold mine.

Thanks for the vote. I'm excited!
Congrats and keep reminding everyone to vote.
I knew the first aid for a smashed nail. Had to do that for my son once.

Susan: Kids are safer with mom.

But I'd much rather do it myself than give hubby the needle. LOL.

Youch on the finger. Hubby is always beating up on his fingers. He usually administers first aid himself.

I'm waiting for the lottery win to hit :)

Congrats on the nomination. I'm all ready to vote.

Shelley: Life is dangerous--especially if you participate. :)

That sounds good. I ought to turn that into a sound bite.

That's three posts in one!

Ouch! Hope the finger heals up quickly.

The Indies 4 Hire was cool. I mostly lurked because of time conflicts but I loved all the info. Congrats to the winners.

Congrats on Mistress. I'll definitely head over and vote my support :)

Raelyn: It's been an eventful week.

Thanks for your support! I'm so glad to see you!
Ouch. I hope it is a lot better now. I sliced the top of my finger off just before Christmas. Those nerve endings don not like being tampered with. :)

Sorry I didn't keep up with your Indies 4Hire. :)

Suzanne: And don't you know know that when you hurt a finger, it catches on everything too. Mine is feeling better. I'm hoping I won't lose the nail now.
