No Author is an Island

I knew if I mentioned my flash player problem someone would have the answer. Many thanks to the brilliant Jhan who advised me to install an earlier version of Flash. I had actually thought of this, but I had no clue where to find older versions of software. Jhan had the answer to that too. She's a genius!

I can see my videos now. Woo hoo!! The first video I played was Adele, Rolling in the Deep. I love her bluesy voice.

I'm getting excited about Monday. That's the day Gwen Gardner and I kick off our Indies 4 Hire Facebook event. Gwen is an old hand at this but I'm an event virgin. (Oh, that sounds awful. LOL.) But it's true. Gwen tells me what to do and I do it.

We have several topics we want to bring up for discussion. But you're also welcome to bring your own topics and questions.

The event lasts a whole week and we'll have different things to talk about every day. Even though we're calling this an Indie Event, we'll be covering things that affect all writers, so don't let the name fool you.

This post kind of segues nicely with the gist of what Indies 4 Hire is about. While it's a showcase for the work Gwen and I do, the event itself is about community and sharing information. The business world calls it networking, but I prefer to call it good karma. It's a give and take, ideally giving more than taking.

This is why I wrote Self-Publisher's Punch List. I could've charged for it, but this is my contribution to my community and to those I have yet to meet.

The advanced reading copy of Self-Publisher's Punch List is available by email. Contact me and I'll be glad to send it to you. Just put "Punch List" in the subject line so it doesn't fall into the spam bucket.

On a personal note: Tank is looking frail. He's in excellent spirits and his tumors have gone down considerably, thanks in part, to the high protein/high fat diet he's on. But he is leaner than I'd like him to be and he doesn't want to play with Iko as often.

Nonetheless, he is one happy dog, living life to the fullest.

Sometimes you have to do the best with whatever life deals you. Tank taught me that. He's a very smart dog.

Photo: It's a weird perspective but I liked how cute his face looked.

Are you coming to our Facebook event next week? Say you will. It'll give us a chance to mingle and talk shop. It's on all week so you can pop in anytime.

Addendum: If Blogger won't allow you to leave a comment, would you email me and let me know which browser you're using? Firefox is preventing me from commenting on my own blog. (I have to use Chrome or IE.)

I'm trying to track down if it's an issue with Blogger or Firefox.  Thanks!

Linda: In between the 3D tv. :)

Thanks!

I signed up! Not sure how events like that work, either, since I don't live on Facebook. Hopefully stuff is sent via e-mail (like posts of other groups I belong to do). Guess I'll find out!

Stacy: I'll find out too. I think you have to set your FB settings to allow comments, but it only follows the post you commented on.

It's on 24/7 though so you can always go back and read the post/comments.
Firefox wouldn't let me comment. I had to open Chrome.

Tank is so cute. I hope he perks back up soon. Give him something fattening from me. ^_^

I don't know if I'll be there on Monday, but I'll help you boost the signal.

BarbaraL Firefox is beginning to screw itself out of a job. They've become increasingly glitchy the last few months.

I may switch to Chrome permanently.

Thanks for the signal boost!

PS Gwen tells me every tweet or post about Indies4Hire will enter you in a drawing.

I use Chrome and had no problem. Tank looks like a real sweetheart.
Maria Zannini said…
Carol: Tank is one of a kind. He is so kind and gentle.

Looks like I'll be spending tonight troubleshooting Firefox again.

What a pain that browser has become. It's always something.

Thanks, Carol!

Awww, Tank is a precious little boy :)

Getting excited for next week!

I signed up, but like the Ghost Knight I am, I'll be in and out and doing what I can to participate. So glad you two are doing this even.

Very excited :-)

Tank has quite the sage and wise look in that photo.

Maria congrats on videos now being viewable!

Tank does look "leaner" however if he is still happy and all other problems aside that is what is important in the long run. Hang in there, your boy is still around to hug and kiss so take advantage if that as much as possible.
Maria Zannini said…
Gwen: I'm expecting lots of hijinks and a little work. :)
Maria Zannini said…
Angela: I learn a lot from old pets. They have a serenity and compassion you won't see in the young.
Maria Zannini said…
Jackie: Greg wants me to do side by side photos of Tank today and when we first got him.

I'll have to find his first picture. He was pretty goofy looking. All head and lanky body.

But I love that boy for more reasons than I can count.

I use Chrome and never have problems leaving a comment here :)

The photo of Tank just makes me want to give him a big hug. You'll have to do that for me, Maria. He looks such a gentle old guy.

Love the photo of Tank. He looks so wise. I'm also a Chrome user - a new one - and have no problems with your blog. Looking forward to Indie 4 Hire.
Maria Zannini said…
Jenny: Hug delivered. He reciprocated with a sweet kiss. :)
Maria Zannini said…
Shelley: I checked my blog on Firefox again last night and now it's working again. This is driving me insane.

They are going to lose me to Chrome permanently.

Awww, that's a sweet pic of Tank. Poor little thing.

Thanks for the app recomendation!
Maria Zannini said…
Jennifer: Ref: apps
Sure thing. Add a gas price app too. Those come in useful. I think Gas Buddy is the most popular.

Aww! I want to give that big ol' boy a big kiss on his head!

High protein slims me down too, LOL. Too bad I love my carbs.

Love the picture of Tank and hope the good health continues. I think at his age he's allowed to sit back and rest :)
Maria Zannini said…
Sarah: Tank could open up his own kissing booth.
Maria Zannini said…
Raelyn: We tell everyone he's retired. He only shows up for guest appearances. :)
Misha Gerrick said…
I'll try to attend as much as possible.

And I agree with you on good karma. It makes business sense. ;-)
Maria Zannini said…
Misha: Jump in any time, Misha! Look forward to seeing you.
Marian Perera said…
Oh, so it's not just me who's having issues with Firefox! And I used to really like it as a browser.

Love the picture of Tank. He looks like he's earnestly trying to comprehend something difficult, like calculus. All the best for his continued health!

Tank's looking good. He's probably just conserving his energy.
Maria Zannini said…
Marian: Firefox has been awful lately. I was pulling my hair.

It seems to have calmed down but they definitely have some buggy issues going on.
Maria Zannini said…
Jim: I need to conserve my energy too then. I'm not as cute as used to be. LOL.

He's lean and that's good, but I wouldn't mind seeing a few more pounds on him.
