Our Newest Addition

I took a few days off earlier this week. I hadn't planned on it, but Greg came home after five weeks away and I let the internet fall by the wayside.

There is one more reason for my distraction.

I'd like you to meet Nana. (She's named after the border collie on Snow Dogs.)

The red thing is what's left of a toy after Iko finished with it.
First day in a new home

I have been in communication with a rescue organization for over a year. I had asked for an older herding dog, but the rescue lady insisted that I give Nana a chance and meet her. From the moment I picked her up, I knew she was the one.

We are taking extra precautions and limiting her to the dog run until she's had all her boosters. I've spoken to a couple of vets and both feel the parvo and distemper threats have since passed. The viruses can't survive triple digits, but I worry in case any strange dogs traipsed through our property after the initial viruses died.

After all we suffered last year, better safe than sorry.

Tank and Nana: size difference

Nana loves everyone, even when her exuberant affection isn't reciprocated right away. She's so sweet tempered, I fear falling into a diabetic coma. :o)

I've waited a long time for her. A week short of five years to be exact. I think my Chelly would approve.

BE. I hadn't realized that until you mentioned it. You're right! She's the best Valentine gift I've ever had.

She's adorable. I just want to pick her up and put her in my pocket. Congratulations on your new addition.

She is gorgeous! I lost a puppy to parvo once and have been deathly afraid of it ever since. Not good stuff, and there's just no way to know where it is really. So I'd be doing the same thing with her (cautious).

Tank seems to be cool with her! Our beagle mix was 8 weeks old when we brought her home six years ago, and we were nervous about how our older chihuahua mix would get on with her. There were a few scuffles when she was being an obnoxious puppy, but otherwise he adored her.

He's really old now, and she's probably less patient with him, but I don't think they'd be parted for much. :-)

Maria you lucky woman, all that "sweet puppy breathe" and adoration from Nana is something to treasure and what a sweet face she has no wonder you could not resist her!

Talk about picture perfect! An absolute cutie- pie. Yeah, I can see why you fell for Nana.

Just want to hug and squeeze and hold her tight!

And...Happy Valentine's Day :-)

Oh Nana is soooo cute! What do the boys think of her?

We had a Rottweiler pup that survived parvo, and it was heartbreaking when he was so sick. He lived til 9 years old :)

Anne: I'll have to frisk you before you leave. LOL!

Mike: Iko's still not quite on board, but he's getting better. He's seemed to have forgotten what it's like to be a puppy.
Maria Zannini said…
EJ: I'm especially paranoid when it comes to the dogs. Only someone who's gone through a case of parvo knows why.

Stacy: Thanks, Stacy. She thinks she's hot stuff too. :)
Maria Zannini said…
Darke: So far so good. She got a cool reception but the dogs are beginning to figure out that she's not just passing through. :)

Raelyn: And guests. I have a friend staying with me so we can attend Con DFW tomorrow.
Maria Zannini said…
Barbara: And even when she's being naughty, you can't stay mad at her.

***

Misha: I will watch her like a hawk. No more sad endings.

Jackie: I actually drove away from the adoption event trying to talk myself out of it. When I came back, I didn't see the rescue lady or the puppy and I thought, oh well, wasn't meant to be. And then I walked around and found them on the floor.

I picked her up then and there and said I'd take her.
Maria Zannini said…
Angela: You'll get to meet her tomorrow. :)

***

Gwen: There is nothing more painful than to suffer with your pet.

The boys are okay with her as long as she doesn't jump in their faces. And that's the tricky part.

Aw, she is gorgeous. So cute and those big eyes. I look forward to hearing about her progress.

She is ADORABLE! I'm so happy for you and for her. She was rescued and put into a great home where I know she'll be loved.

Now you have to take a family photo of all four dogs together. :-)
Maria Zannini said…
Jenny: She's a handful too, but awfully sweet. She charms everyone she meets--except maybe Iko. ;-)
What is Tank thinking of the new kid. Really adorable.
Maria Zannini said…
Thanks, Dru.

Shelley: I'll be anxious how she'll be as an adult. The puppy stage is taxing.
Maria Zannini said…
Angelina: If I can keep Iko from growling at her, I'll try to get a shot of all of them later this week.

Susan: Tank is so easy going. She has been running him ragged with her jumping. But he takes it in stride.

I think I've fallen in love :)
Our Wrangler is a tri-color border collie, but he was so tiny like her once upon a time.

Happy Weekend!
Maria Zannini said…
Jennifer: She's a little bombshell too.
Maria Zannini said…
Carol: I forget how little they can be. But they grow up fast so I want to remember her like this, still fumbling and learning the ropes.

Maria, she's adorable. Reminds me of my Slick, and even looks a little like him. I'm thrilled for both of you.
Maria Zannini said…
Jim: I'll be curious to see what she looks like in a year. And I hope she has the instinct to herd because I'm not sure I could teach her that. :)

She is so adorable! **keels over from the cute**

Maria Zannini said…
Kim: She is charming the pants off my guests right now. We'll see how long that lasts. :)
Maria, she is so lovely. I so much want a dog but afraid I won't have the time to care for it.

I'm in love! She's adorable - just gorgeous. My border collie 'puppy' is a long-legged lanky thing at 8 months old - I keep forgetting he was once so small and cute. :) Wishing you many, many happy years together!
Maria Zannini said…
Suzanne: I guarantee you I have no time, but I make time only because they are so good at reducing stress. :)

They're my therapy dogs.
Maria Zannini said…
Shirley: Thanks! It's been a week and I'm already beginning to see a little growth on her legs. It won't be long before she's be all gangly and goofy. The teenage months.

Sarah: I know. She's just a little bit cute. LOL.
