Have a Picture of a Flying Saucer While I'm Away

For the first time in the life of this blog, I need to take a prolonged break from blogging. Greg's relocation has become more complicated than we anticipated. I've had to turn down design jobs and favors to friends.

Worse yet, the dogs have had to wait more than twenty minutes for a cookie. They've threatened to call the SPCA for my tardiness with said cookies.

Tank insists it's a sign of the apocalypse, but I've assured him that it's simply a case of too much on my plate.

Summer is such a slow time for blog traffic anyway, so why not take advantage of it.

I'll be back July 7th. That'll put me past the holidays and just before Greg's retirement. (Unless we don't sell the house, then he has to stay past his expiration date.) I'm glad his company is keen on keeping him. They've told him he can stay on for as long as he likes.

Until then, I'll visit your blogs when time permits.

In the meantime, here's a new picture of the flying saucer a few miles down the road from me. I was excited when they started painting it. First it was gray, and I thought great, they'll end up painting it silver, give it that UFO look. But no, they went with pumpkin orange! What was the owner thinking?

Both this blog and Back to Basics will be on hold until July 7. I'll try to post on Facebook more often so you won't completely forget me. See you in the cyber halls!

Okay, maybe one more week. I've got some last minute busy-ness to tackle. Can't wait to get back though. I'm looking forward to normal.

Take all the time you need. The dogs' cookies must be given on time! ;o)

Fingers crossed that the house sells so Greg can retire when he planned on retiring.

And yeah, the orange definitely makes that looks like a pumpkin, but maybe that's the look the owner was going for.

Next thing you know, it'll be July 7th. Time moves much too quickly, doesn't it? Hope you're able to get everything accomplished. I know what a relief that will be.
I agree with B.E. It looks as if someone is already planning for Halloween.

Hope you have a good blogging break! Give the dogs some cookies from me.

Tank must have his cookies. All the dogs must have their cookies...on time. No getting around that.

So time away is understandable.

I hope things go well with selling the other casa and then things can get to some semblance of a new norm for you :-)

Well, if you're falling down on cookie detail, we know it's serious! I think you're smart to officially step back. Much better than my current practice of monthly posts. Get yourself caught up and we'll see you on the other side!

Enjoy every single day, Maria !

BE: I hope not. I had visions of it being a posh but quirky sandwich shop. We are sorely in need of restaurants on this stretch of road.
Maria Zannini said…
Stacy: My fear is that it may take longer than that. We'll see in July.

Sandra: I'll keep everyone updated on the saucer. It still ranks as the most widely viewed post of all time. I even get letters from people asking permission to use my photos.

Those saucer homes are few and far between.

Angela: I've been getting woofed at constantly. Apparently, I've been lying down on the job.

Marlene: I'm glad this is happening in the summer. So many people travel and blog traffic always takes a hit.

Besides, I am accumulating loads of wild experiences to talk about later on.

Mike: It's interesting you should say that. I've been working so hard I don't even know what day it is. That needs to stop. No matter what happens with the house, I don't want it sending me to an early grave.

Life sounds chaotic - having to wait for cookies? Unbelievable! :)

Take care, and I hope you get to steal a little time for yourself to sit and enjoy summer.
Maria Zannini said…
Jenny: LOL. This is why Tank was so sure it was a sign of the apocalypse. I'm never late with cookies.

Tank has to wait for his cookies? Good Lord, woman! Where are your priorities? Stop blogging immediately!

I agree the orange is a bit odd. I would have gone with ice blue.

Linda: I know. I'm a bad mom.

re: spaceship
It looks like it still need work. Maybe it's an undercoat. (crossing fingers)

It's always good to shake things up, even with the dogs! Delayed treats keeps them on their toes. Theoretically, anyway, lol
Do the people live in that structure? It certainly stands out in the landscape.
Enjoy your break!

Cate: The 'spaceship' has been an empty shell since I've moved here. We've always fantasized buying it and restoring it to look like a real spaceship. Alas, we never won the lottery so I guess I'll have to put up with the present color.

I hope everything works out the way you want it to, Maria.

My question is not about the color but the flying saucer itself. Why does one decide to park a flying saucer in their paddock?
Maria Zannini said…
Shelley: It's actually a house from the 60s. There are less than a hundred left from that era. There are entire web sites dedicated to them.

It's also one of the most frequented posts on my blog. http://mariazannini.blogspot.com/2010/07/flying-saucer-house.html
Good luck to you! I hope you don't wind up with a mutiny on your hands!

Barbara: They've had me on the gangplank, but I've been reprieved as long as I keep those cookies coming. :)

I don't know, the orange looks pretty bizarre. Just think how cool it will be come Halloween.

Hope real life doesn't bring too many hassles, and look forward to seeing you again come July. :)

Marian: I'm going to have to stop in and see if they've done anything to the interior yet. It was really starting to deteriorate but from the road it looks like they did a good job fixing all the scrapes and dings.
Misha Gerrick said…
Maybe they want extra visibility in space? ;-)

See you when you're back.

I missed this post, Maria. Sometimes real life has to take priority. We'll all be here when you return.
Maria Zannini said…
Misha: So glad they didn't use fluorescent orange then. LOL
Maria Zannini said…
Ellie: We're already reaching critical mass. I hope the next boom we hear is a champagne cork popping and not my head. :o)

I fully understand the need for a break. I'm completely overwhelmed right now and blogging has taken a back seat. I hope you sell your house so you and Greg can finally be together! And those poor pups, LOL! Sooo, what's in that flying saucer?
Maria Zannini said…
Gwen: Nothing is in the flying saucer. But it looks as though someone is beginning to refurbish it.

They just put a sign out front that says Private Property. We can look from a distance but no touching.

Darn. I wanted to go back in there.

I hope everything is going smoothly, if not busily.

Great picture! I bet that'll look especially neat in October with dying grass and golden, red and orange leaves on the trees and all over the grass. I wonder what that would look like with that eerie, darkening, spooky autumn sky...with a skeleton hanging off of it...
Maria Zannini said…
Jennifer: I'll be interested to see what the owner plans for it too. It's already a landmark around here.
