Maggie Safe After Surgery

If my track record continues I might not post Monday, but first I want to tell you why.

Those of you who follow me on Facebook saw the post where I had a bad week, ending with me intervening between Nana and Maggie and earning a chomp on the arm for my efforts.

I'm fine, but Maggie got the short end of the stick. She outweighs Nana by almost 50 pounds but she's no match against saber-tooth Nana.

Anyway, I'd been keeping an eye on Maggie's wound. Even though I cleaned and dressed it, I wasn't happy with the continuing swelling and oozing. I called my vet but he was double-booked so I had to search for another vet.

I finally found one who could see us and she immediately recommended surgery. I got a phone call a few minutes ago. The surgery is over. There were only three puncture wounds, but Nana managed to traumatize an existing lipoma so much that she caused internal damage to the tissue--shredding it.

Poor Maggie is sleeping it off right now, two drain tubes in her wound. I get to pick her up tomorrow.

This week has been a continuation of last week. Nothing has gone right for two solid weeks. And now I'm 500 bucks poorer. I ought to make Nana get a job.

Maggie is such a sweet soul. Nana is a wasp.

I'm sure you guys have seen this on Facebook. Fits Nana to a tee. Her nickname is now Wasp.

Poor old Maggie. Poor Nana, she's definitely in the doghouse. And poor you. Nothing worse than seeing our animals suffer. Hope everything settles down soon.

Jenny: I've had enough drama for a while. A little downtime would be most welcome.

Aw, poor Maggie! Glad she's doing better now, even if she won't necessarily feel like it for a while. caring for injured pets is always rough.

They gave her a nerve block so that should help with the pain after the surgery. She's going to get a lot of TLC when she gets home.

Glad to hear Maggie's on the road to recovery! I was more concerned about you after hearing about the "chomp". Hope you're OK!

Marian: I'm bruised and sore as hell, but otherwise all right.

Hugs to Maggie. I'm sending healing vibes her way.

As for Nana, I'm wagging my finger at her.

Angela: The problem with Nana is that she feels I belong only to her. She hates to share me with anyone.

I gave her the finger too. ...probably not the same finger you gave her. ;-)

I miss a lot when I step away from the Internet, huh? Sorry you had such a rough time of it. Glad Maggie is okay. Here's to a good week! :)

Hmm. I don't know what I'd resent most - the chomped arm or the 500 bucks All the very best of luck between now and Christmas...and beyond

Stacy: I've been missing a lot lately too. I've had to blanket delete everything on my blog reader just to stay current.

Mike: I haven't had to pay for a surgery in a long time. I was shocked at the bill. Worse yet, I reviewed the estimate before they started and I was appalled at the padding.

There were things on there that were totally superfluous. I was a vet tech so I know these were unnecessary.

But I imagine all veterinarians do this now.

At least Maggie is fine. I'll be able to pick her up in a few hours.

Safe healing for Maggie. And you too. Hope you're both fine. And Nana stays in the dog house.
Maria Zannini said…
Anne: Just got home with her. She's got enough drugs to start a business. But she's home and she's happy.

So glad Maggie is okay and you weren't hurt badly. Glad you were able to find a vet in time too. Hope the week gets better for you.
Maria Zannini said…
Mason: I liked this vet so much, we may switch over. Hopefully we won't have another emergency any time soon.

Love to Maggie

But come on...wasps fill a niche too :O(

Re: wasps
I know, but the interactions are often painful.

Sorry to hear this, it's awful! I remember when my Maggie got her ear bit off by my male English bulldog. Cost me $750.00 to get that sucker sewn back on and I had to keep them separated for 7 long years.

Diane: It's awful when two family members have no chemistry, but it happens.

Nana is terribly possessive when it comes to me or Greg so I suspect it has something to do with Maggie vying for attention.

I have to remind Nana that I'm the alpha and I decide who gets attention and when.
