Christmas Feasts to Savor

 How was Christmas?

Ours was quiet, but we were together as a family and that's all that matters. I made Greg's favorite holiday meal. Rib roast.

The day before, we were at a friend's party where she outdid herself with a cornucopia of delights. Ham, shrimp, shredded pork and three tables full of appetizers, finger foods, and desserts.

But did I remember to take a picture? No. I was too busy eating or talking with their dog, Ozzy.

So here's a picture of our Christmas dinner. We had rib roast, scalloped potatoes, peas, brussel sprouts, homemade yeast rolls, and pie. Not to mention all the candy and cookies friends and neighbors dropped off for us. Any perceived diet have hit the skids for the holidays!

Rocket Raccoon bringing down the roast beast.

Check out the Christmas tables (and scenes) from some of my other friends around the world. Your mouth will water with what everyone else planned for their feasts.

Pop in and introduce yourself on their blogs. Let's end the year on a friendly note.

If you'd like to share your pictures, leave your blog link and I'll add it to this post. I hope you all had wonderful holidays. Did anyone get anything special this year?

No pics from me. My belly demanded immediate attention when I should have been snapping a photo or two.

However, Christmas and Thanksgiving were both very wonderful. No complaints and I have my Kindle Fire now so I guess I'll get to see what all the hullaballoo is about :-)

Oh wow. I'm salivating just looking at that roast. We don't do the big spread on Christmas. Too much trouble with all the present-opening and such. Our spread was on Thanksgiving. I'd share a picture of that but I don't know how to add it to a comment.

And I'd be protecting my roast from that raccoon. {grin}

I am salivating, Maria. Only thing is We would need two rib roasts because I like rare and Bernadette likes very well done. New, what are scalloped potatoes?

You forgot to take a picture??? I'm feeling pretty good, then, for remembering. I was sure I'd forget.

Food looks yummy. You won't ever see me cooking anything so fancy, though. I'm sure to ruin it anyway! :)

Nice spread! We bought a plum pudding this year, but by the time we were done with dinner, we were too full to eat any. Maybe next year.

Heh, when I first saw the Rocky Raccoon I was a cat and I'm thinking to myself, when did Maria get a cat?

Sorry it took me so long to get back. This morning's cold snap took us by surprise and we had to do some emergency cold weather care for all the animals.

Angela: Great present! I was tempted to get the Kindle Fire but I inherited Greg's old ipad. I'm thinking I might use it to load Kindle for pc on that one.

Sarah: We LOVE Rocket in our household. We walk around quoting him all the time.

Linda: Christmas is usually our big meal for the year--maybe because we don't do presents. :)

We're still eating on that roast. Second night was leftovers, the third night sandwiches, the fourth night was beef tacos, and tonight I'm going to make Mongolian beef from what's left.

What was nice was that I managed to make different flavors out of the same meat.

Mike: You and I will eat the rare roast. I won't eat it any other way. :)

It was all so good. I got a lot of meals out of that roast, including breakfast and sandwiches.

Stacy: I know! My friend's buffet was something out of Martha Stewart. Her whole house looked like something out of a magazine spread.

I guess I was too overwhelmed to take pictures. :)

Darke: LOL! If we had a cat, he wouldn't be on the dinner table.

Even the cat we used to have knew better than that. He was such a good cat.

We've often thought about getting another cat, but I'm afraid Nana would be too rough with him. She does not play well with others--except maybe Iko.

Mike: Forgot to mention...

Scalloped potatoes are sliced potatoes baked in a little heavy cream and milk, with cheese. Very satisfying!

Here's an easy recipe to follow: http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/never-fail-scalloped-potatoes

Maria if you add garlic you have pommes dauphinois - which is what we had. Thanks for the link

Mike: LOL! There is garlic in almost everything I make. With that much garlic, I should live to be 100.

Brussel Sprouts! My new favorite veggies. I saw them made on Food Network, sauteed in bacon fat. OMG!!

I'm salivating. lol

Maria Zannini said...

Diane: Everything tastes better with bacon. LOL.

This year I sweetened them a little and boiled them with a little sugar.

Your spread was absolutely gorgeous!

I completely forgot about the picture of the table. Glad you had a lovely time and great food. We're still eating leftovers.

Rocket!

I'm sure he guarded your food well, hehe. Your feast looks quite delicious!

Re: leftovers
Us too! But it's all good. Tonight, since it's chilly, I'm making French onion soup.

Rebekah: The robot Rocket is so cool. His little mouth moves, his gun fires, and he repeats all his best quotes. I love that movie.

Cold weather, yeah another Polar vortex thing. Don't blame us. I hear it's coming from Russia. We pulled apart the rest of the turkey and I'm in the process of making cream of turkey soup. Made turkey broth yesterday, and making the soup tonight. I can't wait. I'll have pictures on my blog later. :D

Darke: I made that French onion tonight and it came out great. I got the husband seal of approval. :)

Maria Zannini said...

Barbara: You're here. That's all that matters. :)

Wishing you and those dearest to you, a very healthy, happy and safe new year for 2015.

Love the Raccoon, by the way. The little buggers get everywhere when food is involved.

Maria Zannini said...

Mark: Same to you, Mark, to you and yours.

Re: Rocket
What's a feast without a cute mercenary? :)
