Are You on Pinterest?

There's been widespread flooding throughout Texas, and more rain expected. Right now, we're just sitting it out. Our main road into town is under water. Thankfully we have other options, but I hate it when we lose the 'best' road.

I lost one chick due to the relentless rain. I can't imagine how he drowned but he did. Down the road from us there was a drowned sheep. There are probably more dead animals in the fields. The vultures are circling everywhere.

Help! I discovered a deadly pastime. Pinterest.

How do people navigate that thing?!

I'm overwhelmed every time I go there. I don't have any boards yet. My brain hasn't yet recovered from the "welcome choices" Pinterest gave me.

I blame the rain for leading me there. That's all I need--another web site to suck my time. LOL.

Any tips on how to use Pinterest? Do you have boards there? If you do, let me know in the comments. I'd love to see what other people do with this site.

How many social networks do you belong to? What's your favorite?

I like to hang out on Facebook just to chat with friends, but that's also how I got sucked into Pinterest. My evil friends tend to cross post and I made the mistake of going down the rabbit hole.

I have two pages on Facebook, my social page, and my frugal living page. If we're not already friends, add me to your list.

Hang in there regarding the rain and flooding!

I'm not on Pinterest, but I do think I'd enjoy the visual nature of it. At this point, I only blog. I keep saying I'm going to get on Twitter or Pinterest or something, but then I don't. :)

Just liked your frugal page too! :)

I just got on Pinterest recently (like the last month or so) but I'm still very new to it. I plan to update boards today...maybe add one for my gardening or fall pics etc... I started it as part of an author group promo/giveaway but was too busy to build it into more. I'd say pinning pics as part of a way for readers to enter a giveaway was very popular. I love browsing other pages and photos...I just need to get to where pinning is intuitive to me :).

Madeline: I'll be glad when it dries off. The only ones who seem to love this weather are the ducks and frogs. :)

Rula: Oh, good. I'll look you up.

Re: intuitive
Ha! I don't know if I'll ever get to that point. It's massive.

I have a Pinterest account, but like you I was overwhelmed and didn't pin much. I have 3 boards I created eons ago. Maybe I'll start pinning one day. :)

Seems like when it rains, it rains in bunches, doesn't it? Hope you dry out soon.

How many social networks do I belong to? More than I actually use, I think. I have my blog and Facebook. I use those. I'm also on Google + and WANA, but I haven't been over there in ages. I used to be on LinkedIn, but finally deleted my account. The e-mails were annoying!

I say I refuse to use Twitter, but who knows, that might change someday. I'll fight it till the end, though. It just doesn't seem right for me.

Pinterest doesn't interest me, either, but Instagram does. Haven't really done all that much research on it, though, mainly because I don't WANT to be on any more social sites. Still, I keep thinking if I'm not seen, no one will buy my books, and that's usually what convinces me to sign up.

Oh wow with the rain! Hoping it stops and things start to dry out quickly!

I am on Pinterest but hardly go there. There's just so little time and too much social media that I have to delegate where I'll hang out. I do have some boards on there; I think it was trial and error trying to figure out how to make them and then every time I go back and want to create a board I have to go through the same trial and error to do so. There is a lot of creativity on there though!

I'm on Pinterest - go ahead and friend me there if you want. I don't use it a lot but it was very helpful when my youngest daughter and I were planning another daughter's bridal shower. There's lots of good ideas over there. Probably your best bet is to pick *one* subject, make a board for it, and search for that. You have to cut through the noise or you'll go crazy.

Diane: I'll check your boards out tonight. Maybe it'll give me some ideas on how to use this.

Maria Zannini said...

Stacy: I thought about Instagram, but I like to keep a tight rein on my photos. It drives me insane when people "borrow" them.

I still get emails from Linked In. I know I deleted that account.

Betty: The rains have been intense. Good for gardens and ducks, but not much else.

No sight of drying out for at least ten days too. :(

Maria Zannini said...

Marlene: I'm thinking it might be useful for DIY projects (which I love) and new recipes. I'll check your boards out tonight.

I got on Pinterest at my daughter's urging and we share a lot of stuff on there. It keeps us in touch while she's away. Some writers use it to promote their books. I would think it would be great for your frugal living tips.

:O)

I suggest you hide. It's like Facebook, will suck the time out of you like a leach.

I'm not really sure how to navigate Pinterest either. I have set up an account and have a few boards but beyond that don't really know what to do with it. My social media outlets are my blogger blog, Twitter and Facebook. Other things I may visit now and then but these 3 are the ones I consistently work with.

Maria Zannini said...

Susan: I found a lot of gardening and DIY tips so far. People are so clever.

Maria Zannini said...

Mac: I'm pretty good with FB. Plus it's easy to catch up on my phone while I'm in a waiting room. I don't see how I'll be able to do the same with Pinterest.

Maria Zannini said...

Karen: I wish I was better with Twitter but it's really not in my comfort zone.

Facebook is less intrusive I think. I can come and go without missing too much. The only I trouble I have is when FB shows me what I think I should see rather than the posts from my long list of friends.

I'm a pinterest master. I have so many boards ab andd so many followers. I have a lot of recipe boards and boards fo writing and inspiration boards for each book. I'll find you and follow you (I'm there just under my name if you search for me)

Pinterest? I have an account. I'm ignoring it. So overwhelmed by social media at the moment. Instagram is the thing I'm desperately trying to avoid. I suspect it's FB backing it, but it seems a big push at the moment (suspicious me notes that it now runs paid advertising - coincidence that the media is running "all the cool kids are on Instagram" stories at the moment?).

Glad you're safe from the flooding.

I have Pinterest set up but I haven't gone on there in a while. When I first discovered it, I was on there for three hours and had to stop. Too much of a time suck. Now when I go to the site, I try to hop off quickly before I tumble down into the Pinterest abyss and can't find my way out lol!

I don't do pinterest for that very reason! Beware!

I'm sorry about your chick. Poor baby. Fingers crossed the rain stops soon and you can get down your road. :hugs:

I have not been lured to Pinterest yet. I've thought about it. But I've managed to stay away. Like you, I don't need another time suck. I spend a lot of my social networking time on Facebook, some on Twitter, and the rest on blogs.

Maria Zannini said...

Sarah: That's right. I'll add you to my list of people to check out on Pinterest.

Didn't get to it last night because of a sinus headache. Hopefully I'll feel better today.

Maria Zannini said...

Jenny: Good observation. I noticed people mentioning Instagram a lot more--or is it Facebook allowing those posts to show up more often in my feed?

I hate being manipulated.

Maria Zannini said...

Angela: It's eye candy overload. I might have to single out only one or two ideas and like you, just check it once a day. If I miss something I miss something. Can't see everything.

Maria Zannini said...

Barbara: It is too much. I think I'm going to follow Angela's lead and limit it to a few minutes every night before I go to bed. Maybe it'll fuel my creative juices while I sleep.

Maria Zannini said...

BE: I keep wondering how he could've drowned since there were so many places he could've gone to save himself.

It's possible it happened at night. Chickens are heavy sleepers. If it's dark, they won't be aware of anything. That's why they roost high up--for safety from predators.

Poor baby chick. It sounds like you guys are getting more rain than we did back in May, and that's a little frightening.

I love Pinterest. I go in spurts, though. I won't use for a month or so, and then I'll go back and pin ALL THE THINGS.

Mainly, I use it for finding new recipes. But I use it for story fodder, etc, too. You can find me here: https://www.pinterest.com/teaandyarn/

I saw your comment about linked in... don't worry, those of us who've NEVER had a linked in account get email too. *rolls eyes*

Ref rain. Welcome to Britainčść. Ref Pinterest I joined sometime ago and promptly lost my password. I thought it might help sell a blog but no idea how. On the bright side making some faltering headway with Twitter. Instagram though is an alternative universe. Really hope you're dry soon

Mike Keyton said...

Blog? That should have been book. I'm an idiot

Maria Zannini said...

Rebekah: I seem to recall Linked In got slapped for pulling that cheap. That's nothing short of spam.

Re Pinterest
My internet is spotty right now. I'll get back on later. Thanks for following me.

Maria Zannini said...

Mike: We expect a lot of rain twice a year in this part of Texas, but I think Mother Nature left the faucet on this time.

Re: social media
I've heard that Instagram is the playground of the younger generation, and that Twitter has lost some of its appeal to Instagram.

I think a lot of social media is generational. I can't keep up.
