Dead Couple Walking

I thought I had come down with food poisoning, and then Greg got sick the next day. By the second day of headaches, body aches, and chills, I knew it was stomach flu.

We've yet to keep anything down but sips of water, though Greg did try oatmeal Sunday, much to his regret.
I still have body aches and headache, but the cramps are almost gone. I might try some dry toast later this morning.

Have any of you ever had stomach flu? Any suggestions?

Yes, twenty years ago on Christmas Eve. When it passes, and you're strong enough, Celebrate!!! Until then commiserations

You poor dears. So sorry to hear you both have stomach flu. I haven't experienced it myself but have been told that sipping water, gatorade, and on beef and/or chicken broth can be helpful in keeping you hydrated as you wait for it pass its course. I hope it passes quickly for both of you.

So sorry! I haven't had the stomach flu in a few years (thank God) but I do remember growing up, which I carried through to adulthood and then with raising my kids, my mom would have us take sips of either 7 up or Coke (not chilled, room temperatures). If we kept that down after a bit then she would move us to saltine crackers. A half, if we kept that down, then more. Then it would be bland stuff, like you said dry toast, etc.

Doctors prescribe what is called the BRAT diet for sensitive stomachs like this "bananas, rice, applesauce, toast." I think I would go for the toast first and then work my way through the other stuff.

I hope you feel better soon!

Sorry to hear you're sick. I'd say to keep hydrated, but know that's virtually impossible if you can't keep anything down. Hope it all passes soon.

Have had food poisoning more than once in last 20 odd years but stomach flu not since childhood and only remember drinking sips of sprite (as Betty said room temperature) until could hold it down and then moved on to dry toast and saltine crackers before able to eat small amount of chicken noodle soup or rice.

Hopefully you two will get it out of your systems this week and take care until then because weaker than you think when you do start feeling better so do not overdo too soon,

Hugs to you,

Jackie

Oh, sweetie, I'm sorry. Stomach flu is the pits. I have no hints that haven't already been given so I'm just sending hugs. Fell better.

Thanks, everyone. I think we're over the worst. We're just going to sleep the rest of the day and take it easy.

Angela: I hadn't thought about broth. We did just that and it was quite settling.

Betty: I remember my mother giving us 7Up or ginger ale after an upset stomach. I have neither. :(

Jackie: We tried the dry toast this morning. It kept my nausea at bay.

Ouch. Hope you feel better. We're flu-less here and I don't think I've ever had a stomach bug in my life. My husband had a respiratory flu that lasted forever last year. Still trying to talk him into a flu shot.

Awful. Glad you're feeling a bit better.

Reading this late, but I'm glad you and Greg are feeling better.

Yeah, that stomach flu sucks. Closest I had to it was Norwalk a few years back. Husband got it when he was working at the hospital during a breakout. Would have been nice for them to put up a quarantine sign on the doors. It's nasty and yeah, I would wish it on my worst enemy....

No suggestions, apart from lots of rest. I hope you both feel 100% soon.

Thanks Susan, Jenny, Darke, and Shelley. I think we're better today but we'll continue to eat carefully until we're sure.
