Secrets of Good Promotion

Probably one of the most important aspects for any published, traditional or indie author is good promotion. If you don't make a splash, no one will know you're there. Splash too much and people will treat you like a leper.

Today, I'm visiting with my friend Shelley Munro, multi-published author and world traveler. Honestly, I'd read her blog for her travel stories alone. That woman takes the BEST trips!

Shelley's blog has always been my template of what a blog should look like. It's clean, easy to read, short and interesting. Every post is different, so I'm never disappointed.

I was thrilled when she invited me to be on her blog. And considering her giant back list of books, it seemed only appropriate that I should write about promotion.

No matter how you're published, these will be good tips to keep on the back-burner when you decide how to spend your time and money.

Stop by and visit me at Shelley's!

Had a huge scare last night. I tried to add Google Analytics and before I even inserted the code, my blog disappeared for a whole twenty minutes. My other Google-owned sites worked fine. Only my blog went AWOL. Imagine me with a coronary. Has this ever happened to any of you?

I was frantic, Sarah. I still don't know what happened or if it was all a coincidence.

Maria mine went into long skinny mode one time when I messed with some coding should not have played with... Lucky for me when took it back out the blog went back to normal outlook and if it had totally disappeared you know my heart would have stopped if lost over 2 years worth of posts and all the ones still scheduled to go live in the next three months!

Glad you got it back and hope it does not happen again as do not want to have to talk Tank and Iko through a long distance rescue.

Heading over to Shelley's in a bit, have to go refuel with some food.
Yikes, I'd freak if my blog went away. :(

Okay, off to read Shelley's blog. :)

Horrible. When things like that happen I stare at the screen like a sick rabbit. But what is/are google analytics? Is that the widget that tells you how your blog is ranked?

Anyway I'm glad it's been sorted.

I'm busy playing catch up having been to Cornwall for a week. Off to check Shelley's blog now - see how promotion is done, and whether she's been to Cornwall :)
I would have had an almost heart attack too! And then the tears would have come. Glad it came back.

I'll stop by and see what you have to say about promotion. Such appropriate timing you have.

I am afraid to go anywhere near Google Analytics now. For all I know it was probably coincidence, but there's no point in tempting fate.

Mike: Google Analytics is just another way to track where your blog is being seen. After that scare, I've decided, I don't really need to know.

I'm glad you had it sorted.

Once I loaded photos side by side and my blog went missing, removing the photos brought it back.

Yikes, I'm shuddering just thinking about it, Maria. I'm glad your blog reappeared.

It was an honor having you to visit. You're welcome any time :)

@Mike - Yes, I have been to Cornwall. I've visited Land's End and eaten Cornish Pasties at Mousehole.
