Oh, Look. She's back!

The end of the world started a little early for me. If you thought I seemed scarce lately, it's because I was kinda-sorta dead. Where is Miracle Max when you need him?

For the past few days I've been sick with bronchitis. I kept fighting it for several days but it finally got me--and boy did it ever have its way with me.

I knew I had crossed the Rubicon when Greg insisted on staying so he could drag escort me to the doctor. And because I was a good girl (the half-dead don't struggle much) Greg stopped by a bakery and bought me a chocolate ganache cake. Wasn't that sweet of him?

Doesn't this look decadent? Chocolate ganache cake.

When I was conscious, we watched Dr. Who on Netflix. I think I like Christopher Eccleston better than David Tennant, but maybe Tennant hasn't grown on me yet.

As for the Doctor's companions--I've only met Rose and Martha. Martha is far more practical and proactive so I was glad when she took over. I got a little tired of Rose yelling for help all the time.

I'm beginning to understand why the Doctor is so popular. While the world building is a little cheesy, some of the story ideas are terrific. Like Torchwood, it all depends on who wrote the script for that episode. Some are better than others.

In other news: Tank has been feeling better. He goes for another follow-up on Monday. That lymph node is still enlarged, but not hard (imo), so I'm hopeful.

Poor Iko is still limping. (We think he jumped off the bed and landed wrong.) But Greg noticed he doesn't seem to limp when he's outside playing with Tank. Hmm... Do you think our boy is pulling a fast one?

And just before I got sick we were ravaged by a raccoon that killed three chickens in their pen and mortally wounded a fourth one that we had to mercifully put down. I hand-fed him for several days, but he just wasn't strong enough to make it.

It's been a rough few weeks around the homestead. With any luck that'll be the last of it for a while.

I hope you've enjoyed the last couple of weeks of DIY Christmas projects, traditions and food. We did everything from Advent calendars to decorating, to food--some of which I plan to try soon.

Today is the last day to leave comments on any of the DIY Christmas 2012 posts. Take a look around. There are a lot of good ideas and recipes. Winners will be announced Monday, December 24 so go back and drop us a word or two.

Now that I have codeine and antibiotics I hope to turn the corner soon and feel well enough to visit everyone again.

What are you guys up to? What can I expect of David Tennant and the latest Doctor, Matt Smith? Any good?

I'm sorry about your chickens. Glad that Tank is feeling better.

I haven't watched Dr Who in AGES. (But I did go to a DR Who convention once. WOW. THAT was an experience. LOL)

I loved your DIY Christmas Blogs! That was fun and I am making the salmon dip that one of your hosts gave out. :)

Be thankful your bronchitis didn't turn into pneumonia. No fun, I can tell you that!! I'm glad you're getting better. Being sick is the pits.

And that cake? Mmmm. Looks too pretty to eat, though.

I'm glad you're feeling better. Sending positive vibes to Tank.

Your DIY Christmas blog was cool.

Have a good weekend and holiday.

Jennifer: I think I'd like to try a Dr. Who convention. I want my own Tardis.
Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Stacy: I hadn't thought about that. It was bad enough as it was.
Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Dru: I'm always surprised at what people send me. I would've never thought of the treasure hunt or turning a terrarium into a Christmas display.

I have very creative friends. :)

Sorry you've been so sick. Yay, for Greg carting you off to the doctor. Feel better soon!

Glad to hear Tank is doing better and hope that continues. Sorry about the chickens.

I need to go back and catch up with all the DIY posts. LOVE that you do this series.

I'm with you on Eccleston being my favorite Doctor, and I've even watched the older shows. I do like the dynamic that develops between Rose and Tennant's Doctor though I think Donna is one of my favorite companions. I like Matt Smith but he's so stinkin' young he hasn't completely won me over yet. And while you're on Netflix catching up on the show be sure to check out the Torchwood spin off...Captain Jack is just plain fun :) Oops, can you tell I'm a fan?

Hope you guys have a fabulous weekend and holiday!

Raelyn: I am so stubborn when I get sick. I'm always so sure I can get over it on my own. Alas, I'm usually wrong. :)

Ref: Who and Jack
We started on Torchwood which got us interested in Dr Who.

I agree about Matt Smith. He's terribly young and gaunt looking, but I haven't seen him act yet so we'll see.

Eccleston was strange for me. I really disliked the first episode with him but as time passed, his quirkiness became comfortable. I enjoyed his manic grins.

here's hoping both Iko and Tank feel better asap!
And ugh on the chicken slaughter.
And yay for Doctor Who!!! It does take a bit of an adjustment for Tennant, but i think you'll soon find that he's the best one. Wait until you hit his next companion. That, imop, is the BEST season of all (though Martha has some Great episodes)

Glad everyone's feeling better! Tennant is my fav doctor so far, but I'm loving Matt Smith too. Martha Jones is my favorite companion as well. Some of the later Tennant stuff just broke my heart, but I absolutely loved it. Have you seen Blink?

Glad Tank is feeling a little better. Oh, and you too. But you come in second. Have a great Xmas.
Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Sarah: Once you start to get used to certain characters I guess you hate to let go. Glad to hear Tennant gets better.
Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Barbara: Intriguing! I think it's in the lineup for tonight, so now I'm especially looking forward to it. Thanks for the head's up.
Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Jim: Duly noted. Tank always comes first. :) That old boy is living like a king right now.

I have a cough. Do you think Greg will buy me a chocolate Ganache? I think Tank deserves one too : )
Ref Dr Who I liked Ecclestone too, but, as someone said, Matt Smith has ancient eyes in a very young face and I think you'll come to like him. More to the point he comes as a package with Amy Pond!

Get well soon. My wife is under the weather too. I might act on Greg's tip since it's probably the only way I'm going to get some Ganache this Christmas
Jackie saidā€¦
Maria glad you got meds and are back among the semi-coherent, happier still to say that that cake should be outlawed (but it looks richly yummy) and Tank's continuing climb from the depths is an ongoing joy to my eyes as you post these updates. Now if only the blooming wildlife would leave your critters alone and Iko would stop his pity party when he thinks Mom and Dad are not around to see it!

Have a better weekend I hope, even if old man winter finally did make himself to home in Texas for a bit.
Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Mike: Considering your birthday is coming up, I suspect there will be cake in your future.

By the way, sick or not, chocolate ganache cake is an excellent response to any situation. It definitely has my vote for drug of choice.
Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Jackie: We keep getting hard freezes but today it shot up to the high 60s. Not that I'd know the difference. I've been cooped up for days.

I'm really hopeful for Tank. Maybe I'm imagining things but I think many of his fatty tumors have gone down in size. Still not sure about that one hard tumor.

I know he's an old boy and any time we get with him is borrowed, but we're grateful for what we have.

Stay warm. Looks like we get a few more chilly nights.
Jenny Schwartz saidā€¦
Maria, did you say you need someone to visit and eat cake, um I mean bring chicken soup and take care of you and Tank and limpy-lou Iko? :) Seriously, that cake is a great reward for a doctor's visit. Puts lollypops in the shade.

Get well fast!
Angela Brown saidā€¦
Chocolate as a reward for being a good girl. Now that's sweet :-) And that does look quite delish lol!!

Hope you feel much better soon and continue to enjoy your Whovian fun. Glad Tank is doing well and hope Iko isn't trying to put on airs of an injury to get attention. After all, Mama is getting some and so is Tank so...why not him lol!!
Hope you feel better soon. don't have an opinion on Dr. Who yet. My daughter has come home from college with the plan to indocrinate me.
Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Jenny: Oh, girlfriend, you read right between the lines. LOL. If you ever come to the states, you must promise me to visit Texas first and I'll get you your own chocolate ganache cake.
Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Angela: To be fair, I think Iko is still hurting, but he's so young and robust he only remembers he's hurt when he's quiet. When he's all excited, he jumps around like Slinky.

Typical kid.
Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Susan: I have to admit, I walked in a skeptic, but I'm beginning to understand his appeal. So far, I still like Torchwood better, but only because the stories are more complex and emotionally draining.
Melissa McClone saidā€¦
Oh, no! Hope you feel better. This is an awful time to be sick. Not that there's a good time.

Hugs on the chickens. More prayers for Tank. LOL in Iko. I truly believe animals know how to milk it. Just ask Chaos and Miss Mousie!
Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Melissa: I know. Of all the times to get sick, just before the holidays is the worst.

Although Greg thinks Iko is milking it, my dog ESP tells me there's more under the surface. I don't like the way he stands on his half-limping foot. If it continues, I'll have to take him in to ease my mind.

PS Miss Mousie deserved to milk it a little. She went through a lot.
Gwen Gardner saidā€¦
Our Koko limps, too, because she runs like a maniac and can't really keep up with her brother on her short legs. She's always getting hurt.

Hope Iko and Tank and you feel better soon!
Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Gwen: Thanks, Gwen. Iko is a nut. He's got more energy than smarts.
James Garcia Jr saidā€¦
Ha! Miracle Max. Too funny.
I'm sorry to hear you've been ill. I was sick last year during the holidays and it was no fun at all. I have also had Bronchitis a few times, so take care of yourself, my dear friend.
I'm glad to hear Tank is getting better. *fingers still crossed* I'm sorry to hear about the chickens. :(
Get well soon, my dear friend. Happy holidays.

Wow! That chocolate ganache is calling to me. Loudly!

So glad you're starting to feel better. Bronchitis is such a miserable thing. Hope you're soon fully recovered.

Happy Christmas to you and yours, Maria, and all the best for 2013. Sending warm thoughts to Tank and Iko. Hugs.
Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Jimmy: Ah, then you understand the near death thing. LOL. This is the second time this year for me. Inconceivable! :)

Merry Christmas, Jimmy, to you and your lovely family.
Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Shirley:  I probably would enjoy it more if my sense of smell was better, but it does taste delicious. One tiny slice and I was good for the rest of the night. Chocolate is better than drugs.

Merry Christmas, hon. I'll give Tank and Iko your best.
Jenny Schwartz saidā€¦
Merry Christmas, Maria :) and everyone! (((hugs))) to the pups!
Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Jenny: Thanks, hon. The pups would want to hug you back. :)
