A Productive Weekend All Around
On the home front, we prepared for another cold snap. I wish Canada wasn't quite so generous with their winter weather. I'm not complaining. They have it far worse, but it's a lot of work for me to drain the water lines and water all the animals by bucket. At least Greg was here to help me before he left.
Over the weekend, we made a little pocket money too. I put a Craigslist ad for the Marans chickens and sold almost all of them. We still have 5 roosters left, so they'll be going in the pot. And at the last minute I decided to keep two of the hens.
We had a lot of calls and the hens went fast! I think posting a picture of the dark brown eggs that a couple of them are already laying did the trick.
I don't run Craigslist ads unless Greg is home just to be on the safe side. You never know what to expect. But mostly we ran into people like us, retired and doing a little homesteading on the side. It was nice to talk shop and compare notes.
We got a lot of clean up and repairs done on the property so it was a pretty productive weekend.
I think most people in the US were watching the Superbowl, but I'm not a sports fan, so I don't have a clue what went on Sunday. The only thing I look forward to are the commercials. Budweiser almost always hits its mark, but this year Kia and Jaguar produced some spectacular commercials too.
How was your weekend? Did you do anything interesting?

As for my weekend, spent it with friends and family. Don't get to do that too often.
Our weekend was spent recovering from last weekend. Between the fraud claim (which was cleared up), the car breaking down and the sump pump breaking down, I thought my husband was going to have a heart attack. Ugh. Remind me why having a house is a good thing?
This weekend was pretty decent. Nothing overly productive, more spending and out-going funds because of the time of the month but that's productive. Keeping a roof over our heads and the heat going this time of year takes on a whole new meaning.
I hope all your problems are behind you now. You filled your quota for a year.
End of the month and the beginning of the year is always the most expensive for us.
PS Hope Chipmunk had a good time this weekend!
I'm getting weather-sick.
Enjoy!
Enjoy it while you can.
I drank a lot of tea, too. Tea is wonderful in this weather, and I made an effort to drink extra water because I was drinking so much tea, haha.
It's downright frigid up here in Oklahoma today. I'm so ready for spring.
My only condolence is that at least the colder weather is keeping the scorpions in hibernation.
Always a silver lining.
I never watch the super bowl. But the grocery store sales on soda and snacks and meat are always welcome!
I have to look up those commercials on youtube!
Hope you stay high and dry.
Glad you're careful when posting to Craig's list. Too many people out there using that for the wrong reasons.
It's cold here in NH, too. Brrrr.
Once chickens get into their third and fourth year, production starts to slow down. That's when it's time to put them in the pot.
Marans produce some of the darkest brown eggs of all the brown egg layers. They're always conversation-starters.
Thanks for popping in!
We caught up on chores around the house and the usual stuff. We've had some great weather and have no complaints on that score.
Poor Greg.
However, Saturday was quite productive with some purge and pack on my part.
Of course, you have me completely beat! Glad Greg was around to help.
Last weekend...um...I think we...no, that was the week before. Wait here. I have to go ask Stan. (darn short term memory...)
