Those Wild Dreams

I have had two recurring dreams in the past year.

One is a common one for a lot of people. I dream that I'm back in school because I'm missing one credit hour to graduate. I've already got my diploma, but for some reason I feel compelled to take this class anyway.

I'm always frustrated because the administrators and teachers keep wasting my time with paperwork, or they send me to the wrong class.

My other dream is about snakes. I dream about snakes a LOT. For some reason I also run into snakes all the time in real life.

Greg has accused me of being a Parselmouth. For the life of me, I can't understand why I keep running into snakes. It's like we travel in the same social circles.

I've stepped on them. I've found them in my office, my bedroom, my back yard, and the chicken coop. That last one is understandable. Snakes love eggs.

I've run into rat snakes, rattlesnakes, water moccasins, and a few exotic snakes that I've never identified. Knock on wood, I have NEVER been hurt.

To my exasperation, even though they scare the crap out of me, I don't run away either. I'm so afraid they'll hurt one of the dogs that I go out of my way to relocate them, or kill them if there's no other choice.

It's the same way in my dreams. I'm never hurt, but I'm always frantic to move them out of the house because I don't want them hurting or scaring anyone.

I blame my father. When we were little, we visited his mother's grave. To keep us kids in line, he told us that if we wandered from the stone path in the cemetery, snakes and alligators would swallow us whole.

Yeah. Good times. LOL! I suppose that's bad parenting to modern eyes, but by golly, it worked. We were the quietest and best behaved heathens you've ever seen.

Supposedly, there are five different reasons why people dream about snakes. Most of them are good signs, or at least not malevolent.

I can't pin down why I keep dreaming about snakes. It's always in different settings. It aggravates me that I'm always the one who has to remove them. Just once, I'd like someone else to rescue me. LOL!

Do you have a recurring dream? Have you ever tried to figure out what it meant?

PS  I'm taking a couple of weeks off from my blog. I got hurt recently (not by snakes) and I need time to recuperate.

I'll live. Just a mangled finger. Seeing the doc today in case I need x-rays. Looks bad. Feels worse.

You'll probably see me on Facebook later in the week. Less typing. :)

The only recurring dream I have had for years involves my parents and it is fuzzy but has something to do with driving and possibly a car accident. The recurring nightmare that has haunted me since 1999 is the rollover wreck that possibly is the cause of my MS, TMI that occurred when bopped my noggin on the vehicle several times as it rolled we think.

Given that you and Hubby tend to down massive trees yourselves, a bit of an injury here or there is to be expected. Sending good vibes that your recovery if restful.

I don't recall my dreams. I ususally wake up thinking about my dream and trying to hold a memory of it but it always flutters to the fringes of my mind like a legion of shadowy butterflies.
Hope you heal up. You'll have to tell us the story about that.
I see a lot of snakes around our place but nothing poisonous.

I had a hairline fracture in my middle finger a few years ago, and it hurt like a mf! Though it eventually healed, it took over a year for the swelling in my joint to go down.

Sorry to hear of your pain.

Madeline: I'm always trying to analyze dreams. I'm sure my subconscious is smarter than my conscious mind.

Jackie: after all you've been through I'm not surprised you suffer from nightmares.
Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Angela: Greg is like that. He rarely remembers his dreams. I like to think of them as tools.

Susan: I'll tell the story once I recover...and once I forgive Nana. ;)

Diane: My language has been exceptionally colorful since the accident.

Unfortunately, I forgot everything is closed today. I hope I can see the doc tomorrow. Pain medication isn't helping.

Maria, sorry to here you're hurt. Hope it's relatively minor.

Dreams are fascinating. I wonder if the going back to school one is stress related? It seems to be for me -- exams tend to be involved!

Why did you hurt yourself again? It's not recommended. :P

I don't know about the snakes, but it probably is a good sign that dreaming about them isn't a bad sign.

I just need to not have any more random, dead sparrows in my chicken coop, personally. >_<

Sorry about your finger. Hope it's better soon!

I do have a recurring dream, although it's different each time I dream it. In the dream I'm looking for a bathroom. Yet, the bathrooms I find are either way too dirty or out of order. Since I lost my job, this dream hasn't happened as much, but I did dream it a couple of months ago. Why I remember THESE dreams and not others is beyond me, though! Haha! :)

Ouch with the finger! Speedy recovery! Interesting recurrent dreams about snakes. Interesting that you seem to find them a lot of places (that would freak me out).

I have had recurrent dreams. When I was doing hospitality at church (providing snacks between church services) I would have dreams that we ran out of food or I couldn't get everything set up in time, etc. Once I got familiar with doing it, I had less of those dreams.

Lately for a bit I was having dreams of not being able to get things done, like a report for work taking over an hour, etc. It was weird because at the time everything was going relatively smoothly so I couldn't figure out why I had dreams like that.

I do remember growing up having dreams of trying to cross a street, seeing a car coming, but afraid I wouldn't cross in time. Plus a recurring dream of having to go to the bathroom and not being able to find one.

Dreams are interesting.....

Jenny: I think the school dreams are definitely stress related.
Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Rebekah: Dead sparrows? That would concern me too. I've had birds fly into the coop but only to steal feed.
Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Bathroom dreams are fascinating. In your case, it seems to relate to frustration since you're not able to find the right bathroom.

Betty: I wonder about dreams like those, especially when reality is running smoothly. I have a similar one where I need to dial 911 but the buttons are missing, or they're in the wrong place and I have to figure out where the numbers really are.

I'm so glad real life isn't normally as dire as dreams.
Maybe you'll start dreaming about a school for snakes next. Sounds like a story prompt to me.

I read about your finger on Facebook. Hope it gets better quickly!

Maria, my ipad is playing up. I've sent a comment twice and it's somehow got lost. Anyway, take three:

Ref all things snakey, I hope you enjoy these two links one spoken, the other to be read. I love DH Lawrence, and this is one of his best.

Ref your mangled finger, I hope the healing is quick and trouble free.

And ref the flooding, I hope you're not too badly effected.

And ref Desk-top Vs iPad, I hope this damn thing gets through :)

All my best to you right now. Hugs.

I find this interesting because my grandmother said the same thing about herself and snakes. So there really are people who attract snakes? She felt like she did. She had so many snake stories! I have recurring dreams about many different topics, usually depending on what I'm going through at the time.
Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Sandra: LOL. Reform school, maybe. :)
Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Mike: We've had a lot of water but the flooding is south of us so we're safe. Thanks for asking.

Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Barbara: Thanks, Barbara. It's been a tough week all around.
Maria Zannini saidā€¦
Karen: That's fascinating. Maybe there's something to it.
