The Celebration Continues
We're still in holiday mode at the Zannini ranch. Today is Greg's birthday--a milestone birthday to boot.
His beard might be snowy white but to me he'll always be the 24-year old hunk showing off at the pool.
We've been through so much and it went by in the blink of an eye. We spent the last fifteen years as a long-distance couple--the most grueling fifteen years of my life. If that doesn't test you, nothing will.
It's been seven months since he retired and I'm still giddy knowing I wake up to him every day.
We usually celebrate birthdays by letting the guest of honor decide that day's events. He hasn't mentioned what he wants to do yet. Probably a movie, and dinner at a nice restaurant.
Independence Day 2015 was great! Greg barbequed. I made the side dishes and an awesome blackberry cobbler. I have to say it was awesome because I always mess up the pastry, but this time it came out absolutely perfect, flaky and delicious. I was shocked! The only thing I did differently this time was chill all my implements and ingredients.
Yesterday, we were weeding the garden and came across this.
These are baby bunnies in the middle of what used to be my snow pea bed. I couldn't bear to disturb them so I left the bed as is. Hopefully, they'll be weaned in a few weeks and move on.
So what do you like to do on your birthday? Is there anything special you wish someone would do for you?
I'd be happy if someone cleaned my house and fed the animals. I don't know what it's like to sleep in late. (I so wish I was joking.)

Enjoy the celebration!
I like to go out for dinner with my family on my birthday.
And yay for baby bunnies! So cute.
We don't really do anything for birthdays anymore. A card. I buy a cake. Maybe make something special for dinner. We stopped giving each other gifts years ago. And we like it that way. =o)

I like having cake on my birthday, but my husband never remembers (he remembers my birthday, though, because I don't let him forget!). I think it's because he doesn't want to eat cake. But I rarely get it anymore, so I want to splurge!
Cute bunnies! We used to have bunnies living under our deck. I haven't seen them for awhile (pretty much since we tore down our tree, which was next to the deck), so I'm guessing they found a better place to live.
On the topic of babies, I have fledglings EVERYWHERE right now - at least one each of cardinals, mockingbirds, brown thrashers, and robins. Sparrows and starlings don't count, lol.
Sadly, it means the dog only goes out with supervision for a while, because he killed a baby robin about a month ago. But it's warm enough now that he can't stay out too long anyway, especially since he won't sit in his wading pool. I'll sit in it instead.
Usually for our birthdays the birthday person gets to pick where they want to go for dinner :)

Re: bunnies
They grow so fast. Within weeks they'll be ready to forage on their own.
Re: wading pool
What? No ducks yet? LOL
Re: long distance
It was worth it, financially, but it was awful. It taught me how to be independent though that doesn't take the place of having your life partner by your side.
and I hope you get a sleep-in someday, Maria
I'd want to be able to sleep in too lol. From our six, 8 week old Black Copper Marans, 4 ended up being cockerels and one of them let out his first (sad) crow today...so I don't think sleeping in is in my near future lol. Not that my kids or other critters would let that happen!
re: crowing
Their crows sound so pitiful when they're teenagers.
And yay baby bunnies!
For b-days around here, we just go out to a pricey dinner
I never do anything on my birthday. I don't know why, I just don't. However, if I have an extraordinary day at some other time, I usually count that as my birthday day.
I hope your hand is better.
Baby bunnies are still in their nest. Judging by their size, I imagine they'll stay put for at least four more weeks.
re: birthdays
Aww...you gotta do something nice for yourself, even if it's just dessert. When I lived alone I didn't do much, but I always bought myself dinner (and brought it home).
