A Nana Update
An update of sorts. Life has been pretty busy here and although I have thoughts on the economy and saving money, my main focus has been Nana, the wonder dog.
Here she is with Jammy, the cat. For three years, we've had to separate them, but now that she can't get up as easily, she's lowered herself to let him sit next to her. Jammy, for no reason we know, adores her. But Nana has a disdain for all animals. She prefers people.
She's doing remarkably well, so well it's fooled her into thinking she can run. She cannot. A sprint will wear her out. A hop off too high a step will make her hold up her bad leg and limp on the other three.
She feels no pain, and she's happier than I've seen her in months, but it's all a mask.
About 20 years ago, I had torn the meniscus on my knee. Insurance companies being what they are, they insisted I take the pain shots first before they would pay for surgery. The good news is that the pain shot worked great--for three days.
Since I felt no pain I went right back to climbing stairs, walking, and lifting heavy loads. By the end of the week, I realized too late I had done more damage to my knee and it was worse than before.
It's the same way for Nana. She doesn't know her joints are deteriorating, so just like me, she's desperate to get back to her old life. It's up to us to limit her activity as much as possible. The more we can preserve her joints, the longer she can be with us.
It took nearly three weeks for us to see the effects of Librela, but it works...for now.
In other news, my kitchen is finally mine again. I still haven't put everything back where it belongs, but I'll get to it this week since I'm expecting company.
Greg teases me that since I'm so antisocial in person he doesn't understand how I can welcome internet friends to my house.
I've actually welcomed a couple of my online friends to my house before, and nearly had a visit from my "brother" from a British mother, (but then covid struck) and his trip was canceled.
I've never been disappointed meeting friends I've met on the internet. I guess when you spend so many years chatting with them, it's almost like knowing them in the flesh.
On the homestead, we're starting work on the extension to my greenhouse deck. Greg has decided that a 20 x 20 foot deck is too small for my needs so he wants to expand it another 10 feet.
It won't be quite as grueling as the initial deck since there's nothing to clear but one enormous tree limb that we should've cut before, but somehow missed.
After that, we can start on the shade cloth canopy structure. This one he's building from scratch. I would've liked to have bought it ready made, but the cost was prohibitive. Luckily, I have a handy husband.
We have quite a few trees to fell from other parts of the property. These have been dead a while, and should've been taken down sooner, if not for the parade of chaos these last few months. We should get to them by the fall.
The garden is so-so. I actually had to start it twice because some of my seeds didn't take, or didn't survive transplant. I also started late too due to all our projects and unforeseen events. Next year will be better. I'll be more organized, with a less heavy project load.
My garage sale has been put on hold until the fall--or even next spring. I had planned on doing it this April, then my ceiling collapsed. It took nearly all of May for me to get my house back. And now it's too hot. I really want to get rid of this clutter.
Any recent calamities at your end?

re: frogs
Ugh. I have a friend whose dog hunts those out too (always on his dad's watch). She gets the same result from her dog.
I'm glad they're better.

Heading there now!
Nana and Jammy. I call Jammy Mini-me. I do think Jams gravitated to Nana because they looked alike. Maybe he thought she was his mother. He was awfully young when we found him.
This head cold is weird, Maria. One time I'm fine and the next day I'm sneezing, coughing, runny nose but still feel very fine. SOoo weird! I'm not tired and I still drink coffee. Usually when I get this, I'm tired and don't feel like coffee. Very weird!!! 🤷♀️
