There's No Place Like Home

Above: Daisy and Greg at my niece's house. Daisy sneaked into our room to sleep in between us.

Once Greg had safely escorted my sister and brother in law to our house (from Arizona), they rested for a couple of days. It was obvious the cars they were driving were way overloaded.

Fortunately, our babysitter (our angel) was available again and she offered to stay with the fur kids while I drove the third vehicle of our convoy.

We loaded up the Yukon, re-balancing the load between vehicles so at least they could see out their back windows. The first day of traveling wasn't too bad, but the second day was met with rain, construction, and police. My sister plotted the course and she didn't want to go through a couple of major cities, so we went miles out of our way to circumvent them.

We had no sooner landed at our final destination when I got a text that Nana had hurt herself and she wasn't looking so good.

That was it. We could no longer relax. As much as we wanted to stay and visit for a while, we loaded up and left that next morning.

Neither of us had gotten much sleep the night before. It was a 13 hour drive (a much straighter drive, thankfully), and while we could've made it if we were well rested, we couldn't do it this time. We had to stop. Greg said I fell asleep the moment my head hit the pillow.

We got up early the next morning and drove straight through. We were home in six hours.

Everyone was happy to see us. Nana looked a little rough, and she still has a slight hitch to her gait, but I think she was too happy to let it bother her.

Strangely enough, everyone looked completely worn out even though I knew they were entirely house bound while we were away. Jammy's not eating well, which worries me a little, but maybe he too, is too excited in his own kitty cat way.

I did five loads of laundry when I got home. I also got the freeze dryer going because my niece loaded me up with cucumbers. My garden is bursting at the seams with tomatoes, peppers, okra, and figs. That freeze dryer will be working nonstop for the next few weeks.

I am so glad to be home, but happier still, that everyone is okay. We did nothing but worry about Nana the entire way home.

Our babysitter kept us updated. If Nana had stopped walking completely, I had my vet on call. She had promised to do a house call if we needed her.

Greg is going to build Nana a ramp to make it easier for her to get inside. Meanwhile I'll walk her from an exit that doesn't require extra effort from her.

I'm glad we could help my sister, but it was hard on us considering the state of Nana and Jammy. Neither one may finish the year. Jammy is looking particularly weary.

At least we're all where we're supposed to be, safe and sound.

How has your week been?

How's the weather? We're smack in the middle of the Dog Days of Summer. My only goal now is to keep everything outside alive until September when it'll be tolerable again.

We were glad we at least got to see my niece's property. The grounds are stunning, acres of trees and hills, and the house is HUGE, perfect for a growing family with lots of hobbies.

My sister kept getting lost at my house. I'd hate to think how she'll manage at her daughter's house. 😄

I'm just glad we got her and her hubby there in one piece. Hopefully now, my sister can rest while she finds a house of her own.
