Yard Sale Mania
We finally had our yard sale! We couldn't have picked a hotter day of the year to hold it, but we persevered.
I was looking through my blog posts, and our last yard sale was 8 years ago! We kept saying we were going to have one, but we kept putting it off. Then the pandemic started in 2020 and no one was having yard sales for at least three years after that (at least around us).
We moved a LOT of stuff. Big stuff like woodworking equipment, farm equipment, and tons of decor and housewares.
The oddest thing we sold was an afterthought. Greg spied a bunch of boxes labeled Emu and Rhea eggs. He brought one down and just left it on the floor. When the first customer saw it, he asked about them and Greg said he'd sell them for a $1 a piece.
From then on, almost every other person picked up four or five at a time. Then a woman came in and texted her friend who carves these eggs. She bought over 300 eggs. That was a nice piece of change.
The only thing that didn't sell was a hydraulic lift for disabled people. We bought it a few years ago for my sister who has a disabled husband. But it turned out she already had one, so now we're stuck with it.
I'm trying to figure out what else I could use it for. It lifts and glides across the floor with no effort at all.
All in all, I'm very happy to have cleared so much space. Leftovers were put on the curb.
It was an exhausting weekend, but well worth it. We spoke to a lot of new neighbors. The equine vet down the road bought every piece of farm equipment I put out there.
We priced everything dirt cheap. Only one person bothered to haggle. Everyone else made piles for themselves and bought at the given price. That made me feel good that we priced everything reasonably.
Hopefully, the next time we'll have to do this is when we decide to move to smaller digs, or one of us dies.
For now, I think I'm going to sleep late and be lazy for a whole week.
Oh, and I had to keep apologizing to people because everyone wanted to use Venmo, ApplePay, or Zelle. I don't want to learn any new apps. Cash is still king in my book. I'm sure they all thought we were troglodytes for being so behind the times.
In other news...I got another jury notice! I swear, I get called in at least twice a year. Greg hardly ever gets called.
Have you ever had a garage sale? Any thoughts on how else I could use that hydraulic patient lift? I looked it up on Amazon and it was selling for over 500 bucks! I was only asking $25. It looks like such a useful device, there must be more ways to make use of it.
